| 16 | 15 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: |

| 17 | 16 | | SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-7-227, is amended by adding the |

| 18 | 17 | | following as a new subdivision: |
|---|
| 19 | 18 | | ( ) An assistant district attorney is eligible to receive year-for-year service credit |
|---|
| 20 | 19 | | for prior law enforcement experience upon the recommendation of the hiring district |
|---|
| 21 | 20 | | attorney general, and subject to the approval of the executive director of the Tennessee |
|---|
| 22 | 21 | | district attorneys general conference; |
|---|
| 23 | 22 | | SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-7-227, is amended by designating |
|---|
| 24 | 23 | | the current language as subsection (a) and adding the following subsection (b): |

| 25 | 24 | | (b) As used in subdivision (a)( ), "prior law enforcement experience" means full- |
|---|
| 26 | 25 | | time employment with a law enforcement agency as a POST-certified law enforcement |
|---|
| 27 | 26 | | officer. An employment record from the law enforcement agency must be used to |
|---|
| 28 | 27 | | establish the law enforcement experience. |
|---|
| 29 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it. |
