13+AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 68,
14+relative to deaths.

1116 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
12-SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 68-3-511 (2)(8), is amended by deleting
13-the subdivision and substituting:
14-(8) The attending physician has agreed in writing to sign the death certificate. The
15-agreement by the attending physician must be present with the deceased at the place of
16-death;
17-SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 68-3-511(4)(8), is amended by deleting
18-the subdivision and substituting:
19-(B) The attending physician has agreed in writing to sign the death certificate. The
20-agreement by the attending physician must be present with the deceased at the place of
21-death;
22-SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 68-3-511 (6)(8), is amended by deleting
23-the subdivision and substituting:
24-(B) The attending physician has agreed in writing to sign the death certificate. The
25-agreement by the attending physician must be present with the deceased at the place of
26-death;
27-SECTION 4. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 68-3-511, is amended by adding the
28-following as a new subdivision:
29-(7) This section does not prohibit or impair the ability of a county medical examiner to
30-investigate the circumstances of death when inquiry is required pursuant to § 68-3-502 or the
31-Post-Mortem Examination Act, compiled in title 38, chapter 7, part 1. The county medical
32-examiner shall certify the death certificate, complete and sign the medical certification, or file
33-the death certificate as required by law.
34-SECTION 5. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it. PASSED:
