13	12		AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49,
14	13		relative to virtual schools.

16	15		BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
17	16		SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-6-2206, is amended by adding
18	17		the following as a new subsection (e) and redesignating the existing subsection (e) accordingly:
19	18		(e)
20	19		(1) All virtual schools shall use a curriculum and instructional materials
21	20		that meet or exceed the academic standards adopted by the state board of
22	21		education. Notwithstanding subsection (a), the state board of education shall not
23	22		waive this restriction for a virtual school.
24	23		(2) The state textbook and instructional materials quality commission
25	24		shall adopt a procedure to receive and evaluate feedback from a resident of this
26	25		state that virtual school curriculum or instructional materials do not meet or
27	26		exceed the academic standards adopted by the state board of education.
28	27		(3) If the commission receives feedback according to the procedure
29	28		established pursuant to subdivision (e)(2), then the commission shall evaluate
30	29		and determine, within sixty (60) days from the date on which the feedback was
31	30		received, whether the virtual school curriculum or instructional materials meet or
32	31		exceed the academic standards adopted by the state board of education. The
33	32		commission shall issue the commission's determination in writing to each LEA
34	33		that operates a virtual school. If the textbook commission determines that a
35	34		virtual school curriculum or instructional materials do not meet or exceed the

40		-	academic standards adopted by the state board of education, then a virtual
41	40		school using that curriculum or instructional materials shall cease using such
42	41		curriculum or instructional materials and substitute a curriculum and or
43	42		instructional materials that meet or exceed the academic standards adopted by
44	43		the state board of education.
45	44		SECTION 2. This act takes effect July 1, 2025, the public welfare requiring it.
