13	12		AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49
14	13		and Title 68, relative to diabetes.

16	15		BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
17	16		SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, Chapter 6, Part 3, is amended by
18	17		adding the following as a new section:
19	18		(a) On and after August 1, 2025, if an LEA or public charter school provides
20	19		information on immunizations, infectious diseases, medications, or other school health
21	20		issues to parents and guardians of students in grades kindergarten through twelve (K-
22	21		12), then the LEA or public charter school shall also include the information about Type
23	22		1 and Type 2 diabetes published by the department of education pursuant to subsection
24	23		(b).
25	24		(b) No later than July 31, 2025, the department of education, in cooperation with
26	25		the department of health, shall develop and publish on its website, in a manner that
27	26		permits an LEA or public charter school to download the publication for free, a
28	27		publication containing the following minimum information on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
29	28		for distribution to parents and guardians of students in accordance with subsection (a):
30	29		(1) A description of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes;
31	30		(2) A description of the risk factors and warning signs associated with
32	31		Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes;
33	32		(3) A recommendation to a parent or guardian of a student displaying
34	33		warning signs associated with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes that such parent or
	34	+	guardian consult with the student's primary care provider to determine if
	35	+	immediate screening for Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes is appropriate;

40		-	immediate screening for Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes is appropriate;
41	40		(4) A description of the screening processes for both Type 1 and Type 2
42	41		diabetes and of the significance of the stages of Type 1 diabetes; and
43	42		(5) A recommendation that, following a Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
44	43		diagnosis, the parent or guardian consult with the student's primary care provider
45	44		to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
46	45		SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
