1211 AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 62,
1312 Chapter 5, relative to funeral directors and
1413 embalmers.

1615 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
1716 SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 62-5-305(b), is amended by deleting
1817 subdivision (7) and substituting the following:
1918 (7) Has completed two (2) years of apprenticeship in the presence of and under
2019 the direction and supervision of a licensed funeral director. An associate degree, or the
2120 completion of a program of study in funeral service education, as provided in subdivision
2221 (b)(6), may be substituted for one (1) year of apprenticeship.
2322 SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 62-5-305, is amended by adding the
2423 following as a new subsection:
2524 (c)
2625 (1) The completion of thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter
2726 hours in funeral service education or the equivalent from a school accredited by
2827 the American Board of Funeral Service Education, as provided in subdivision
2928 (b)(6), may be substituted for one (1) year of apprenticeship.
3029 (2) The applicant may fulfill the hourly educational requirement under
3130 subdivision (b)(6) and substitute such hours for one (1) year of apprenticeship
3231 under subdivision (c)(1) and complete the second year of apprenticeship
3332 concurrently in a single calendar year.
3433 SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
