1312 AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 4;
1413 Title 5; Title 6; Title 7; Title 8 and Title 49, Chapter
1514 7, relative to the "Dismantling DEI Departments

1817 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
1918 SECTION 1. This act is known and may be cited as the "Dismantling DEI Departments
2019 Act."
2120 SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 4, Chapter 1, Part 4, is amended by
2221 adding the following as a new section:
2322 A department, agency, or other unit of state government shall not maintain or
2423 authorize an office or department that promotes or requires discriminatory preferences in
2524 an effort to increase diversity, equity, or inclusion. All mandates, policies, programs,
2625 activities, guidance, regulations, enforcement actions, consent orders, or other
2726 declarations by such office or department are void.
2827 SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 5, Chapter 1, Part 1, is amended by
2928 adding the following as a new section:
3029 A county government shall not maintain or authorize an office or department that
3130 promotes or requires discriminatory preferences in an effort to increase diversity, equity,
3231 or inclusion. All mandates, policies, programs, activities, guidance, regulations,
3332 enforcement actions, consent orders, or other declarations by such office or department
3433 are void.
3534 SECTION 4. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 6, Chapter 54, Part 1, is amended by
3635 adding the following as a new section:

4140 A municipal government shall not maintain or authorize an office or department
4241 that promotes or requires discriminatory preferences in an effort to increase diversity,
4342 equity, or inclusion. All mandates, policies, programs, activities, guidance, regulations,
4443 enforcement actions, consent orders, or other declarations by such office or department
4544 are void.
4645 SECTION 5. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 7, Chapter 3, Part 1, is amended by
4746 adding the following as a new section:
4847 A metropolitan government shall not maintain or authorize an office or
4948 department that promotes or requires discriminatory preferences in an effort to increase
5049 diversity, equity, or inclusion. All mandates, policies, programs, activities, guidance,
5150 regulations, enforcement actions, consent orders, or other declarations by such office or
5251 department are void.
5352 SECTION 6. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, Chapter 7, Part 1, is amended by
5453 adding the following as a new section:
5554 A public institution of higher education in this state shall not maintain or authorize
5655 an office or department that promotes or requires discriminatory preferences in an effort
5756 to increase diversity, equity, or inclusion. All mandates, policies, programs, activities,
5857 guidance, regulations, enforcement actions, consent orders, or other declarations by
5958 such office or department are void.
6059 SECTION 7. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
