13+AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-
14+50-814; Title 49, Chapter 6 and Title 49, Chapter
15+3, Part 3, relative to public schools.

1317 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
1418 SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-3-312(a), is amended by deleting
1519 the language "twenty (20)" and substituting instead the language "thirty (30)".
16-SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-50-814(d)(2), is amended by
17-deleting the subdivision and substituting instead:
18-(2) Each local board of education and public charter governing body shall adopt a
19-policy that requires the six (6) work weeks of paid leave granted pursuant to this section
20-to be:
21-(A)
22-(i) Taken consecutively, except in extenuating circumstances, as
23-determined and approved by the director of schools or the director of the
24-public charter school, as applicable; or
25-(ii) Taken non-consecutively, but in increments of no less than one
26-( 1) week; and
27-(8) Used within twelve (12) months of the birth or stillbirth of the
20+ SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-50-814(d), is amended by deleting
21+subdivision (2) and substituting instead the following:
22+ (2) The six (6) work weeks of paid leave granted pursuant to this section must
23+be taken consecutively, except in extenuating circumstances, as determined and
24+approved by the director of schools or the director of the public charter school, as
25+applicable, and must be used within twelve (12) months of the birth or stillbirth of the
2826 employee's child or the employee's adoption of a newly placed minor child.
29-SECTION 3. This act takes effect July 1, 2025, the public welfare requiring it. HOUSE BILL NO. 1253
