1212 A RESOLUTION to amend Article VI, Section 14, of the
1313 Constitution of Tennessee, relative to penalties
1414 for violations of municipal ordinances.

1616 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
1717 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
1818 CONCURRING, that a majority of all the members of each house concurring, as shown by the
1919 yeas and nays entered on their journals, that it is proposed that Article VI, Section 14, of the
2020 Constitution of Tennessee be amended by adding the following to the end of the section:
2121 Notwithstanding this section, a municipality may, in its discretion, impose a fine
2222 exceeding fifty ($50.00) dollars for a violation of a municipal ordinance without
2323 such fine being assessed by a jury; provided, that the fine is just and reasonable
2424 under the circumstances.
2525 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the foregoing be referred to the One Hundred
2626 Fifteenth General Assembly and that this resolution proposing such amendment be published in
2727 accordance with Article XI, Section 3 of the Constitution of Tennessee by posting such
2828 amendment on the official website of the Secretary of State and on the official website of the
2929 General Assembly.
3030 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the clerk of the House of Representatives is directed
3131 to deliver copies of this resolution to the Secretary of State, with this final resolving clause being
3232 deleted from such copies.
