1212 A RESOLUTION to commend and congratulate Dan Long on the
1313 occasion of his retirement.

1515 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we should honor those citizens who have performed
1616 with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout their years of public service; and
1717 WHEREAS, Dan Long of Lincoln County is one such estimable person, who evinces the
1818 greatest integrity and probity in all his chosen endeavors; and
1919 WHEREAS, having served with distinction for twenty-two years on the Lincoln County
2020 Election Commission, Mr. Long is taking his well-deserved retirement from that august body;
2121 and
2222 WHEREAS, he began his esteemed tenure with the Lincoln County Election
2323 Commission as a poll official and later became a voting machine technician; his involvement
2424 continued to grow and evolve over the years, with him ultimately serving as chairman of the
2525 commission; and
2626 WHEREAS, Mr. Long's devotion to State election laws has undoubtedly contributed to
2727 the faithful execution of countless Lincoln County elections over the years and to the
2828 commission's status as an exemplar for others across the Volunteer State; and
2929 WHEREAS, always ahead of the curve with regard to ever-evolving technology, Dan
3030 Long was a mentor to new members and a true leader within the Lincoln County Election
3131 County Commission, earning the respect of his colleagues across all parties and perspectives;
3232 and
3333 WHEREAS, a native and lifelong resident of Waynesboro, Dan Long graduated from
3434 Waynesboro High School and thereafter went to work at Western Electric from 1961 to 1997,
3535 retiring after thirty-six years of astute service; and

4040 WHEREAS, after his retirement from Western Electric, he began building his family
4141 home in Lincoln County; the substantial project began in 1998, and his family moved into the
4242 home in 2001; and
4343 WHEREAS, he has also served his community as a member of the Fayetteville Elks
4444 Lodge, of which he is a past Exalted Ruler; and
4545 WHEREAS, throughout his many worthy endeavors, Mr. Long has been blessed with the
4646 love and support of his wife of fifty-eight years, Barbara Snow Long; daughters, Suzanne and
4747 Dane; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and
4848 WHEREAS, Dan Long exemplifies the spirit and allegiance to family and community that
4949 are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and
5050 WHEREAS, Mr. Long is wholly committed to the noble precepts of public service that
5151 have earned Tennessee recognition as the Volunteer State, and he should be specially
5252 recognized; now, therefore,
5353 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
5454 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
5555 CONCURRING, that we commend Dan Long for his honorable and astute service to the good
5656 people of Tennessee throughout his twenty-two-year tenure with the Lincoln County Election
5757 Commission and extend to him our heartfelt wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement and
5858 every continued success in his future endeavors.
5959 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
6060 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
6161 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
6262 without House or Senate designation.
