15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of |

16 | 16 | | the passing of Franklin Dewey Shaffer of Lawrenceburg; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Franklin Shaffer was an exemplary public servant and consummate |
---|
18 | 18 | | professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in |
---|
19 | 19 | | numerous capacities; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, born on February 22, 1948, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mr. Shaffer was the |
---|
21 | 21 | | only child born to Ishmael Worth Shaffer and Marjorie Gaynell Williams; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Franklin Shaffer spent his formative years in Corpus Christi and attended |
---|
23 | 23 | | Tuloso-Midway Independent School District before he and his family relocated to Summertown, |
---|
24 | 24 | | Tennessee; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Shaffer graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1965 and |
---|
26 | 26 | | earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Middle Tennessee State |
---|
27 | 27 | | University; he returned to Texas and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence law degree from the |
---|
28 | 28 | | University of Texas at Austin; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, following law school, Franklin Shaffer began his legal career as the |
---|
30 | 30 | | assistant district attorney in Corpus Christi, Texas; he went on to purchase the family business, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Shaffer's Muffler Shops, and continued his father's legacy of hard work and ingenuity; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Shaffer was a successful entrepreneur in the Lawrenceburg community, |
---|
33 | 33 | | known for his innovative ventures and businesses and his ability to turn his dreams into reality; |
---|
34 | 34 | | perhaps his proudest achievement was founding Shaffer Farms Custom Meats and Texas Bar- |
---|
35 | 35 | | B-Q, a restaurant that brought his passion for Texas-style barbecue to Tennessee and created |
---|
36 | 36 | | a destination where family, friends, celebrities, and visitors from across the country could gather |
---|
37 | 37 | | and savor his legendary recipes; and |

45 | 45 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Shaffer's love for the unusual extended to his remarkable collection of |

46 | 46 | | exotic cats, which included his beloved jaguar, Tigre, who became a local celebrity in Corpus |

48 | 48 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Shaffer was deeply devoted to his faith and his family, and he always |

49 | 49 | | endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and |

50 | 50 | | WHEREAS, Franklin Shaffer will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his |

51 | 51 | | cherished wife, Brenda Shaffer; his children, Perry Worth (Wendy) Shaffer, Brian Lawrence |
