12 | 12 | | A RESOLUTION relative to a voluntary reporting system for |
---|
13 | 13 | | Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease in Tennessee. |
---|
14 | 14 | | |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT) is one of the most common inherited |
---|
16 | 16 | | neurological disorders, affecting an estimated one in 2,500 people in the United States; this |
---|
17 | 17 | | statistic suggests that approximately 2,800 Tennesseans may be affected by CMT; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, the Department of Health currently maintains voluntary reporting systems |
---|
19 | 19 | | for various health conditions through its existing web-based information technology system; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, thus, no additional state appropriation would be required to implement CMT |
---|
21 | 21 | | reporting through existing departmental resources and systems; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, accurate enumeration of CMT patients would enhance Tennessee's |
---|
23 | 23 | | competitiveness for federal research grants and specialized care centers; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, this General Assembly recognizes that improved data collection for rare |
---|
25 | 25 | | diseases aligns with the State's commitment to efficient healthcare resource allocation; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, voluntary reporting through existing healthcare networks would impose no |
---|
27 | 27 | | mandatory costs on healthcare providers or the State; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, this data collection effort would support Tennessee's healthcare providers in |
---|
29 | 29 | | delivering more targeted and effective care to CMT patients; now, therefore, |
---|
30 | 30 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED |
---|
31 | 31 | | FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE |
---|
32 | 32 | | CONCURRING, that this General Assembly encourages the Department of Health to: |
---|
33 | 33 | | (a) Implement voluntary reporting of Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT) cases |
---|
34 | 34 | | through existing electronic health record systems; |
---|
35 | 35 | | |
---|
36 | 36 | | |
---|
37 | 37 | | - 2 - 002037 |
---|
38 | 38 | | |
---|
39 | 39 | | (b) Utilize current departmental resources and infrastructure for such data |
---|
40 | 40 | | collection; and |
---|
41 | 41 | | (c) Provide an annual report to the House of Representatives committee having |
---|
42 | 42 | | jurisdiction over subject matters concerning health and the Senate Health and Welfare |
---|
43 | 43 | | Committee on the progress of this voluntary initiative. |
---|
44 | 44 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that it is the intent of this General Assembly that such |
---|
45 | 45 | | voluntary reporting system shall not create any new financial obligations for the State of |
---|
46 | 46 | | Tennessee. |
