15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, we were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Major General Jackie |
---|
16 | 16 | | Daniel Wood of Lexington; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Daniel Wood was an exemplary public servant and consummate |
---|
18 | 18 | | professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in |
---|
19 | 19 | | numerous capacities; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, the son of William Hughel Wood and Eliza Tolley Wood, Dan Wood was |
---|
21 | 21 | | born on October 6, 1940, in Lexington on Maple Street; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wood attended Lexington City School and Lexington High School, |
---|
23 | 23 | | where he showcased his excellent athletic skills in basketball especially; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, after graduating in 1959, Mr. Wood enlisted in the United States Army in |
---|
25 | 25 | | 1961 and served as a sergeant in Vietnam; upon his return from active duty, he joined the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Tennessee Army National Guard in 1965; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, completing officer candidate school at the Tennessee Military Academy, he |
---|
28 | 28 | | went on to serve his State in various capacities, including acting as commander of the 4/117th |
---|
29 | 29 | | Infantry Battalion and as deputy director of Plans, Operations, and Training at Tennessee State |
---|
30 | 30 | | Area Command; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wood continued his education and graduated from Cumberland |
---|
32 | 32 | | University in 1986 and the Air University in 1992, showing a residing commitment to personal |
---|
33 | 33 | | development and enrichment; and |

34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, in 1995, Mr. Wood became the seventy-third Adjutant General of |
---|
35 | 35 | | Tennessee, the State's highest military position; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, his extensive military accomplishments were rightfully recognized by |

37 | 37 | | numerous commendations: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the |

50 | 50 | | young man at Second Baptist Church in Lexington, and he was a current member of First |

51 | 51 | | Baptist Church of Lexington, where he attended the Jack Hay Sunday School class; and |

52 | 52 | | WHEREAS, outside of his multiple successful careers and seasons of study, Mr. Wood |
---|
53 | 53 | | had a lifelong passion for history, particularly Tennessee history, and he was always proud of |
---|
54 | 54 | | being able to say he was a fourth-generation resident of Henderson County and a fifth- |
---|
55 | 55 | | generation Tennessean; and |
---|
56 | 56 | | WHEREAS, he was also deeply devoted to his family, as a son, father, husband, and |
---|
57 | 57 | | brother, and always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and |
---|
58 | 58 | | WHEREAS, Dan Wood will be sadly mourned yet fondly remembered by his wife of |
---|
59 | 59 | | sixty-two years, Janis Fesmire Wood; his son, Stuart Wood; his daughter, Amy Wood (Charlie) |

60 | 60 | | Halters; his grandchildren, Trey Halters, Caleb Halters, and Becca Halters; his siblings Barry |

61 | 61 | | (Gail) Wood, Ridonna Wood Renfroe, and David Wood; and an extended family of nieces and |
