| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-8-101, provides for the governance |

| 19 | 19 | | of Tennessee State University by a state university board; and |

| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-8-201, provides that the governor |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | shall appoint eight members to the state university board of Tennessee State University; and |

| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-8-201, further provides that at least |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | three of the gubernatorial appointees shall be alumni of the institution for which they are serving |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and that at least six of the nine voting members of the state university board shall be residents |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of the State of Tennessee; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee has appointed Marquita Qualls to the state university |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | board of Tennessee State University for a term that will expire on March 31, 2027; and |

| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, a graduate of Tennessee State University's chemistry program, Ms. Qualls |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | earned her Ph.D. at Purdue University and joined GSK, a major pharmaceutical company, prior |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | to founding her own company, Entropia Consulting, a small management consulting firm |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | specializing in strategy, operations, and development for STEM-related companies; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, she has also served as the president of the National Organization for the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers and was a member of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the team that developed the Leadership Development System for the American Chemical |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Society; and |
