| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-201, provides for the governance |

| 18 | 18 | | of the University of Tennessee by the board of trustees; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-202, provides that the governor |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | shall appoint ten members to the board of trustees of the University of Tennessee; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee has appointed Donnie Smith to the board of trustees of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the University of Tennessee to a term that expires June 30, 2030; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smith is the former chief executive officer and chairman of Foster |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Farms and the former president and chief executive officer of Tyson Foods, Inc., one of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | world's largest food companies; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, in 2014, he and his wife, Terry, pledged $3.2 million to the University of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Tennessee (UT) to establish an endowment for international sustainable agriculture, and in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 2018, the Smiths funded the Smith Center for International Sustainable Agriculture at UT's |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Institute of Agriculture; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smith brings valuable experience and knowledge to the board of |

| 33 | 33 | | trustees; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-202, provides that each member |
