1313 A RESOLUTION to confirm the appointment of John Compton to
1414 the board of trustees of the University of

1717 WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-201, provides for the governance
1818 of the University of Tennessee by the board of trustees; and
1919 WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-202, provides that the governor
2020 shall appoint ten members to the board of trustees of the University of Tennessee; and
2121 WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee has appointed John Compton to the board of trustees of
2222 the University of Tennessee for a term that expires June 30, 2030; and
2323 WHEREAS, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Mr. Compton is the former chief
2424 executive officer of PepsiCo Americas Foods; he also served as the chief executive officer of
2525 Pilot Flying J and has served as an advisor to Pilot Flying J, the Haslam family, and the
2626 Cleveland Browns; and
2727 WHEREAS, in 2013, he joined a New York private equity firm, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice
2828 as an operating advisor; and
2929 WHEREAS, Mr. Compton brings valuable experience and knowledge to the board of
3030 trustees; and
3131 WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-202, provides that each member
3232 appointed by the governor to the board of trustees of the University of Tennessee shall be
3333 confirmed by joint resolution of the General Assembly; now, therefore,
3434 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
