16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly take great pleasure in recognizing a |
---|
17 | 17 | | gentleman who has dedicated years of his life to the State of Tennessee as a public servant of |
---|
18 | 18 | | the highest order; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, George T. "Tom" Morton, Jr., served with distinction as a member of the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Tennessee Registry of Election Finance Board for ten years, completing his term on December |
---|
21 | 21 | | 31, 2024; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, during his outstanding tenure on the Registry Board, Mr. Morton worked |
---|
23 | 23 | | with purpose and conviction to enforce Tennessee's campaign financial disclosure and |
---|
24 | 24 | | campaign contributions limits laws and sustain the public's confidence in the electoral process; |
---|
25 | 25 | | and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, a native of Bristol, Tennessee, and an alumnus of Tennessee High School, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Mr. Morton earned a bachelor's degree in engineering physics from the University of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Tennessee, Knoxville; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Morton worked for AT&T for twenty-seven years and served astutely in |
---|
30 | 30 | | several positions with the company, including in telecommunications engineering, major |
---|
31 | 31 | | equipment sales, U. S. and foreign government products and programs, joint venture |
---|
32 | 32 | | development, and a consortium to provide telecommunications routes in Russia; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, following his retirement from AT&T, Tom Morton returned to his beloved |
---|
34 | 34 | | hometown of Bristol, where he and his wife of forty-seven years reside on the family farm; and |
---|

39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, he has given back to his community through his service on the Rocky |

42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, in the realm of politics, Mr. Morton has served on the Sullivan County |

43 | 43 | | Republican Party's (SCRP) Executive Committee, and he chaired the SCRP Reagan Day |

44 | 44 | | Dinner in 2011; and |

45 | 45 | | WHEREAS, treasured as a loyal friend, Tom Morton was a strong supporter of the |

46 | 46 | | campaigns of Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey, Representative Jason Mumpower, and many |
---|
47 | 47 | | other Republican officials across Upper East Tennessee during their respective terms in office; |
---|

49 | 49 | | WHEREAS, Tom Morton exemplified integrity and honesty throughout his tenure on the |

50 | 50 | | Tennessee Registry of Election Finance Board, and he is most worthy of our approbation; now, |

52 | 52 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED |

54 | 54 | | CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Tom Morton upon his exemplary service on the |

55 | 55 | | Tennessee Registry of Election Finance Board and thank him for his years of service to the |

56 | 56 | | Volunteer State in numerous capacities. |

57 | 57 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared |
