12	12	A RESOLUTION to recognize Keep Tennessee Beautiful and
13	13	commemorate the twenty-sixth annual Great
14	14	American Cleanup March 1, 2025 to June 22,

17	17	WHEREAS, it is the pleasure of the members of this General Assembly to acknowledge
18	18	and applaud those community initiatives that foster collaboration among citizens toward a
19	19	common good; and
20	20	WHEREAS, one such event is the Great American Cleanup, a grassroots spring-
21	21	cleaning movement that prompts individuals to take greater responsibility for their local
22	22	environment through service projects that engage volunteers, local businesses, and civic
23	23	leaders; and
24	24	WHEREAS, now in its twenty-sixth year, the Great American Cleanup created 15,000
25	25	opportunities for millions of volunteers in 2024, with remarkable results—volunteers picked up
26	26	millions of pounds of litter, cleaning over 100,000 acres of public spaces and tens of thousands
27	27	of miles of roadways and shorelines; and
28	28	WHEREAS, spearheading Tennessee's participation in the Great American Cleanup is
29	29	Keep Tennessee Beautiful, the state-level affiliate of Keep America Beautiful; Keep Tennessee
30	30	Beautiful serves as a statewide resource for litter prevention, community greening, and recycling
31	31	and waste reduction education; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Keep Tennessee Beautiful is housed at the University of Memphis as an
33	33	independent department within the University of Memphis Center for Regional Economic
34	34	Enrichment as a community engagement program and is a grant-funded organization
35	35	sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Transportation; and

40	40	WHEREAS, in addition to the immediate, pragmatic results of the Great American
41	41	Cleanup, the initiative promotes the value of teamwork and the synergy that results when
42	42	concerned citizens work in concert toward an altruistic end; certainly, this effort will continue to
43	43	instill a sense of pride in citizens throughout the State and engender goodwill among its
44	44	volunteers; and
45	45	WHEREAS, it is most fitting that we commend Keep Tennessee Beautiful and
46	46	acknowledge its efforts toward making the Great American Cleanup a success; now, therefore,
47	47	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
48	48	FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
49	49	CONCURRING, that we hereby join with Keep Tennessee Beautiful in commemorating the
50	50	twenty-sixth annual Great American Cleanup, extending our sincere gratitude to all involved with
51	51	this worthy initiative.
52	52	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
53	53	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
54	54	the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
55	55	without House or Senate designation.
