12	12	A RESOLUTION to recognize and commend the founding of the
13	13	Major David Wilson Chapter of The Sons of the
14	14	American Revolution.

16	16	WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly take great pleasure in recognizing
17	17	those outstanding civic organizations and their members who work with purpose, commitment,
18	18	and enthusiasm to promote patriotism and preserve America's panoramic history and heritage;
19	19	and
20	20	WHEREAS, one such worthy organization is the Major David Wilson Chapter of The
21	21	Sons of the American Revolution, which was granted a charter on January 25, 2025, by the
22	22	Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution Board of Governors at their regional
23	23	meeting in Jackson; and
24	24	WHEREAS, the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is a patriotic, historical, and
25	25	educational organization composed of male descendants of those who supported the American
26	26	Revolution; members can trace their lineage back to individuals who either fought in the
27	27	Revolutionary War, served in the Continental Congress, or contributed in other ways to the
28	28	cause of American Independence; and
29	29	WHEREAS, the SAR was established in 1889 and has grown to include chapters across
30	30	the United States and internationally, playing a key role in fostering a deeper understanding of
31	31	American history and honoring the legacy of those who fought for independence; the SAR is
32	32	also involved in the preservation of history, education, patriotic activities, and community
33	33	service; and
34	34	WHEREAS, the Major David Wilson Chapter of the SAR is named in honor of a native of
35	35	North Carolina who enlisted in the Rowan County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia under

40	40	Colonel Francis Locke; his journey in the Revolutionary War was distinguished by his
41	41	participation in several critical battles and engagements; and
42	42	WHEREAS, later in life, Major Wilson moved to what is now Sumner County, where he
43	43	was very involved in local government and served as the first Speaker of the House for the
44	44	territory that would later become the State of Tennessee; he is also the namesake of Wilson
45	45	County; and
46	46	WHEREAS, the first officers of the Major David Wilson Chapter of the SAR were sworn
47	47	in on February 15, 2025, in a ceremony in Lebanon; the founding members of this newly
48	48	established chapter are George Richard Bouton, Eugene Wade Bland, Isaac Lewis Bland, John
49	49	Robert Emmert, James Howard Jordan, James Howard Murff, Edward Wayne Patton, Jerry
50	50	Allen Vance, and Dannell Bennett Waters; and
51	51	WHEREAS, the charter members of the Major David Wilson Chapter of the SAR are
52	52	Haywood St. Clair Barry, William Rex Bouton, Damon Clark Boyd, Paul Wayne Devine, Robert
53	53	Coleman Fields, James Bradley Jordan, Jon Todd Hannah, Daniel Edward Hardison, David
54	54	Floyd Howell, Jerry Gordon Hughes, James Chase Lannom, James David Peyton, David Melvin
55	55	Roberts, Dwight Groom Saddler, Raymond Shane Stroud, Paul Calvert Stumb, Bruce Carleton
56	56	Taylor, Eddie Linn Tomlinson, James Christopher Vance, Kevin Oakley Vance, Michael Ryan
57	57	Vance, Timothy Owen White, and William O'Neill Whisenant; and
58	58	WHEREAS, the newly established Major David Wilson Chapter of the SAR is dedicated
59	59	to preserving American history and fostering patriotism, and it is wholly fitting that this worthy
60	60	organization should be honored at this time; now, therefore,
61	61	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE O F REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
62	62	FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
63	63	CONCURRING, that we recognize and commend the founding of the Major David Wilson
64	64	Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, expressing our gratitude to its members for

69	69	their commitment to honoring the legacy of those who fought for American independence and
70	70	extending our best wishes for every continued success in the future.
71	71	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
72	72	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
73	73	the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
74	74	without House or Senate designation.
