1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize Hoskins Drug Store on the occasion
1313 of its ninety-fifth anniversary.

1515 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should recognize
1616 those Tennessee businesses that have a longstanding commitment to providing exceptional
1717 service to their customers; and
1818 WHEREAS, one such esteemed business is Hoskins Drug Store in Clinton, which has
1919 been owned and operated by the Hoskins family for the past ninety-five years; and
2020 WHEREAS, opened in April 1930 by R.C. "Dudley" Hoskins, the original Hoskins Drug
2121 Store was located on Market Street; over time, the store expanded to thirteen locations,
2222 including its current location on Main Street, which opened in 1947; and
2323 WHEREAS, now operated by Mr. Hoskins's daughters, Dudley Hoskins Bostic and
2424 Mollie Hoskins Scarbrough, Hoskins Drug Store has witnessed many changes in the pharmacy
2525 business since 1930, when drug compounding was the general practice and medicines came in
2626 bags filled with powder; and
2727 WHEREAS, a local landmark to generations of Anderson County residents, Hoskins
2828 Drug Store's primary location, across from the Anderson County Courthouse in Clinton, draws
2929 lawyers, politicians, and courthouse workers during the week at lunchtime with its soda fountain
3030 and lunch counter; and
3131 WHEREAS, Hoskins Drug Store continues to offer many of its original services,
3232 including a full-service pharmacy, full medical supply, hot plate lunches, and an authentic soda
3333 fountain that was custom-made for the drug store in the 1940s; and

3838 WHEREAS, the drug store, which contains original wood fixtures and telephone booths
3939 and is one of the few pharmacies in the South with its original soda fountain, was added to both
4040 the National and Tennessee Register of Historic Places in 1998; and
4141 WHEREAS, an independent drug store, Hoskins Drug Store has also strived to provide
4242 top-of-the-line services, expanding its offerings to include immunizations, patient counseling,
4343 medication therapy management services, and pharmacogenomics services; and
4444 WHEREAS, Hoskins Drug Store's special attention to customer service over the years
4545 has unquestionably contributed to the longevity of the business; and
4646 WHEREAS, businesses such as Hoskins Drug Store are truly the backbone of American
4747 society, as they combine the spirit of entrepreneurship with family values, honesty, and integrity;
4848 now, therefore,
4949 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
5050 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
5151 CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Dudley Hoskins Bostic and Mollie Hoskins
5252 Scarbrough, their employees, and the entire Hoskins family on the occasion of Hoskins Drug
5353 Store's ninety-fifth anniversary, extending to these exemplary Tennesseans our best wishes for
5454 much continued success and happiness.
5555 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
5656 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
5757 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
