20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, H.R. 226 places four parcels of specified land and easements in Monroe |

21 | 21 | | County into a trust for the use and benefit of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians; and |

22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, the parcels of land include the acreage on which the Sequoyah Birthplace |

23 | 23 | | Museum is located, a twelve-acre support parcel, a one-acre island, and Chota, the original |

24 | 24 | | Overhill capital town of the Cherokees; and |

25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has a rich history in East Tennessee, |

26 | 26 | | and we are pleased to commend the efforts of the Cherokee people to reclaim their historical |

27 | 27 | | lands in Monroe County; now, therefore, |

28 | 28 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED |

29 | 29 | | FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE |

30 | 30 | | CONCURRING, that we commend the efforts of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to |
