1212 A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Major Richard Wayne
1313 Brandt of Ooltewah.

1515 WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
1616 the passing of Major Richard Wayne Brandt; and
1717 WHEREAS, Major Richard Wayne Brandt, U.S. Air Force (ret.) was born on October 22,
1818 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Francis and Clarice Brandt; and
1919 WHEREAS, he received a bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University in
2020 Minnesota and a Master of Arts degree in Executive Development for Public Service from Ball
2121 State University; and
2222 WHEREAS, Major Richard Brandt served his nation with the utmost integrity and valor
2323 for twenty years before officially retiring with the rank of major; and
2424 WHEREAS, he was also employed for fifteen years by the U.S. Army Civil Service as a
2525 drug and alcohol psychologist; and
2626 WHEREAS, Major Brandt spent most of his government service time overseas in
2727 Germany; while there, he was an avid volksmarcher, having walked more than the equivalent
2828 distance of the circumference of the earth (47,004 kilometers/29,206 miles); and
2929 WHEREAS, an active member of the Parkinson's music support group, the Trembling
3030 Troubadours, Major Richard Brandt had a lifelong love of Southern Gospel music; and
3131 WHEREAS, a man of abiding faith, Major Brandt was a member of Delray Baptist
3232 Church in Rossville, Georgia, which he served faithfully for many years as a deacon; and
3333 WHEREAS, he was also deeply devoted to his family, and he always endeavored to
3434 remain true to family values of the highest order; and
3535 WHEREAS, left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-three years, Rose
3636 Brandt; daughter, Julie Stansel; sisters, Barbara Rudlang and Rhonda Schulte; brothers-in-law,

4141 John (Gloria) Tebbenkamp, Tom (Laurie) Tebbenkamp, and Lynn (Ronda) Tebbenkamp; niece,
4242 Pam (Dennis) Pruitt; and nephews, Doug Pruitt and Joel (Odko) Tebbenkamp; and
4343 WHEREAS, in addition to his parents, Major Richard Brandt was preceded in death by
4444 his parents-in-law, Ralph and Maxine Tebbenkamp; and brothers-in-law, Dickie Rudlang and
4545 Jim Schulte; and
4646 WHEREAS, Major Brandt leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in
4747 public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen
4848 endeavors; and
4949 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
5050 remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant, distinguished veteran, and human
5151 being; now, therefore,
5252 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
5353 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
5454 CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Major Richard Wayne Brandt, reflecting fondly
5555 upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with
5656 courage and conviction.
5757 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences
5858 to the family of Major Brandt.
5959 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
6060 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
6161 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
6262 without House or Senate designation.
