A RESOLUTION to honor PJ Haggerty of the Memphis Tigers on 
being named American Athletic Conference 
Player of the Year. 
 
 WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly take great pleasure in recognizing a 
young man whose outstanding play on the basketball court has earned him a singular accolade; 
and 
 WHEREAS, PJ Haggerty, a redshirt sophomore guard for the University of Memphis 
Tigers, was recently named Player of the Year in the American Athletic Conference (AAC); he is 
only the second Tiger to win this prestigious award; and 
 WHEREAS, truly a special player, PJ Haggerty leads the AAC in scoring with an 
average of 21.2 points per game and ranks fifth in NCAA Division I basketball; and 
 WHEREAS, he ranks third in the conference in steals (1.8 per game) and ninth in assists 
(3.8 per game); and 
 WHEREAS, PJ Haggerty began his collegiate basketball career with a bang in 2023-
2024, compiling statistics that are equal to this season's totals, and was unanimously selected 
as the AAC's Freshman of the Year; and 
 WHEREAS, in addition to his personal achievements on the hardwood, PJ Haggerty has 
led the Memphis Tigers to an excellent 26-5 overall record, the AAC regular-season 
championship with a 16-2 mark, and a certain invitation to the Big Dance; and 
 WHEREAS, PJ Haggerty has demonstrated basketball skills that only a very few can 
even try to emulate, and he is most worthy of our approbation on this special occasion; now, 
therefore,

 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTA TIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED 
FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE 
CONCURRING, that we honor PJ Haggerty of the Memphis Tigers on being named American 
Athletic Conference Player of the Year and wish him and his fellow Tigers all the best in the 
NCAA Tournament. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to 
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear 
without House or Senate designation.
