1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize Trooper Robert A. Jackson, Jr., on
1313 the occasion of his retirement.

1515 WHEREAS, our nation was conceived by individuals who were willing to sacrifice their
1616 personal concerns to ensure the public safety and welfare, and the Volunteer State is especially
1717 proud to be the home of so many valiant individuals; and
1818 WHEREAS, one such individual is Trooper Robert A. Jackson, Jr., of the Tennessee
1919 Highway Patrol, who, having rendered sterling service to the people of the State of Tennessee
2020 for more than thirty years, will soon take his much-deserved retirement; and
2121 WHEREAS, Trooper Robert Jackson was born in Nashville in September 1965 to Robert
2222 and Catherine Jackson and lived in Donelson, Hermitage, and Mt. Juliet in his early life; and
2323 WHEREAS, he was active in a number of extracurricular organizations as a student at
2424 McGavock High School, including Explorer Scouts-Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Law
2525 Enforcement Training Academy, and the Nashville Airport Authority; and
2626 WHEREAS, eager to serve his country, Trooper Jackson entered the United States Air
2727 Force at the age of seventeen under the delayed enlistment program with a guaranteed job
2828 classification of Security Police, which he saw as an excellent starting point for a career in law
2929 enforcement; and
3030 WHEREAS, two weeks after his high school graduation in 1984, he was sent to
3131 Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for basic training, after which he attended the Air Force Police
3232 Academy, marking the start of his military career; and
3333 WHEREAS, Trooper Robert Jackson's first assignment was to Malmstrom Air Force
3434 Base in Great Falls, Montana, where he safeguarded Minuteman 2, 3, and MX Intercontinental
3535 Ballistic Missiles, part of the U.S. nuclear triad of land, submarine, and strategic bombers that
3636 were a major deterrent during the Cold War era; and

4141 WHEREAS, his next assignment was to the combat and survival training program at
4242 Camp Bullis, Texas, known as Air Base Ground Defense; he then served a three-year tour as a
4343 security police officer at Ramstein Air Base in the Federal Republic of Germany, followed by a
4444 subsequent assignment back to Malmstrom Air Force Base; and
4545 WHEREAS, due to Operation Desert Shield and the military's Stop Loss program,
4646 Trooper Jackson completed seven years of a six-year term of enlistment in 1991; and
4747 WHEREAS, Trooper Jackson met the love of his life, Pamela, while stationed in
4848 Montana; the two soon wed and returned to Nashville after Mr. Jackson received an honorable
4949 discharge from the United States Air Force; and
5050 WHEREAS, in the mid-1990s, Trooper Robert Jackson became a part of the Capitol Hill
5151 Highway Patrol detachment, in which capacity he served with distinction for over three decades;

5353 WHEREAS, throughout his many endeavors, Trooper Jackson has been supported by
5454 his family, which includes his wife; two daughters, Leslie and Samantha; and a number of
5555 grandchildren, whom he adores; and
5656 WHEREAS, in addition to his lifelong commitment to serving God, Trooper Jackson
5757 enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, snow skiing, target shooting, and motorcycling, in
5858 addition to art and photography, but perhaps his favorite pastime in recent years has been
5959 spending time with his grandchildren and extended family; and
6060 WHEREAS, Trooper Jackson epitomizes the spirit and commitment that are
6161 characteristic of a true Tennessean, and his professionalism and dedication to serving his
6262 community are evident to all who know him; and
6363 WHEREAS, we find it appropriate to recognize and applaud Trooper Robert Jackson for
6464 his dedication to the State of Tennessee and its citizens; now, therefore,
6565 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
6666 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
6767 CONCURRING, that we recognize Trooper Robert A. Jackson, Jr., of the Tennessee Highway
