1212 A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Paul Bates on his
1313 receipt of the Governor's Volunteer Stars Award.

1515 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should specially
1616 recognize those estimable citizens who have dedicated their time and energies to helping
1717 others; and
1818 WHEREAS, each year, 1.3 million Tennessee volunteers give over 99 million hours of
1919 community service, contributing $2.6 billion to Tennessee's economy; and
2020 WHEREAS, these volunteers are the backbone of our communities, and by donating
2121 their time and talents to fulfill needs that would otherwise go unmet, they embody the spirit of
2222 giving; and
2323 WHEREAS, Paul Bates of Obion County is one such exemplary person, who is a
2424 recipient of the Governor's Volunteer Stars Award in recognition of his laudable commitment to
2525 his community; and
2626 WHEREAS, amid taking a building trades course at the Tennessee College of Applied
2727 Technology, Mr. Bates decided that he wanted to utilize his newfound knowledge and skill to
2828 help Habitat for Humanity construct a new home; and
2929 WHEREAS, even after spending time at the site with his class, Mr. Bates generously
3030 gave of his personal time to complete the project and provide a local family with a well-made
3131 residence; and
3232 WHEREAS, Mr. Bates is a model citizen; his commitment to helping others through
3333 volunteerism epitomizes the spirit of the Volunteer State, and he should be specially recognized;

3939 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
4040 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
4141 CONCURRING, that we honor Paul Bates for his outstanding community leadership,
4242 congratulate him as an esteemed recipient of the Governor's Volunteer Stars Award, and
4343 extend to him our best wishes for every future success.
4444 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
4545 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
4646 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
4747 without House or Senate designation.
