15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should specially |

16 | 16 | | recognize those estimable citizens who have dedicated their time and energies to helping |

17 | 17 | | others; and |

18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, each year, 1.3 million Tennessee volunteers give over 99 million hours of |
---|
19 | 19 | | community service, contributing $2.6 billion to Tennessee's economy; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, these volunteers are the backbone of our communities, and by donating |
---|
21 | 21 | | their time and talents to fulfill needs that would otherwise go unmet, they embody the spirit of |
---|
22 | 22 | | giving; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Paul Bates of Obion County is one such exemplary person, who is a |
---|
24 | 24 | | recipient of the Governor's Volunteer Stars Award in recognition of his laudable commitment to |
---|
25 | 25 | | his community; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, amid taking a building trades course at the Tennessee College of Applied |
---|
27 | 27 | | Technology, Mr. Bates decided that he wanted to utilize his newfound knowledge and skill to |
---|
28 | 28 | | help Habitat for Humanity construct a new home; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, even after spending time at the site with his class, Mr. Bates generously |
---|
30 | 30 | | gave of his personal time to complete the project and provide a local family with a well-made |
---|
31 | 31 | | residence; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bates is a model citizen; his commitment to helping others through |
---|
33 | 33 | | volunteerism epitomizes the spirit of the Volunteer State, and he should be specially recognized; |
