12	12	A RESOLUTION to honor and commend the Hillsboro Burros
13	13	boys' basketball team upon winning the 2025
14	14	TSSAA Division I, Class 4A state championship.

16	16	WHEREAS, it is fitting that this General Assembly should salute those student athletes
17	17	who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as true champions of
18	18	whom we can all be proud; and
19	19	WHEREAS, one such exemplary group of lads is the Burros boys' basketball team of
20	20	Hillsboro High School, whose members have proven themselves to be the fiercest of
21	21	competitors and truly worthy of admiration by winning the 2025 TSSAA Division I, Class 4A
22	22	state championship, the first such state championship in school history and the first by a Metro
23	23	Nashville large class school since 1981; and
24	24	WHEREAS, entering regional competition as District 11 champions, Hillsboro quickly
25	25	cleared the decks by crushing Green Hill 69-38 in the quarterfinals, thumping Cane Ridge 67-41
26	26	in their semifinal match-up, and cruising past Beech 51-38 in the final to win the Region 6
27	27	championship; and
28	28	WHEREAS, the Burros then crushed Centennial 51-23 in the sectional round to punch
29	29	their ticket for the Big Dance; and
30	30	WHEREAS, poised for ultimate victory in the Class 4A state tournament at MTSU's
31	31	Murphy Center, Hillsboro bested Maryville 53-47 in the quarterfinals and defeated Bradley
32	32	Central 63-48 in the semifinal round to advance to the final; and
33	33	WHEREAS, appearing in their first state title game since 1956, the Burros prevailed over
34	34	Oak Ridge by a score of 57-42 to claim the Gold Ball trophy that signifies a state champion and
35	35	finish the 2024-2025 campaign with an outstanding 34-5 record; and

40	40	WHEREAS, the following young men proudly displayed the resilience and determination
41	41	of Burros: the Class 4A state tournament's Most Valuable Player, Tyren Fisher; All-Tournament
42	42	team selections, Cortez Graham-Howard (a Mr. Basketball finalist), Xavier Washington, and
43	43	Lonny Holland; title game standouts, Jalen Heard and Max Burtner; and contributing players,
44	44	Nortez Foxx, Andrew Hull, Jabari Davis, Austan Harris, Kemonta Bassham, William Satterfield,
45	45	Anthony Cooper, and Rory Cawthon III; and
46	46	WHEREAS, Hillsboro's superb performance would not have been possible without the
47	47	expert guidance of Head Coach Rodney Thweatt and his assistant coaches, John Boucher,
48	48	Mark Brown, Carlos Holder, Cameron Jordan, and Joshua Shipman, and the unfailing support
49	49	of the players' families, their fans, and their community; and
50	50	WHEREAS, the members of the Hillsboro boys' basketball team epitomize all that is
51	51	good in today's student athletes, as they have achieved a premier level of success in
52	52	competition while exhibiting the highest degree of character in all aspects of life; and
53	53	WHEREAS, the perseverance, determination, work ethic, and talent of this group of
54	54	young men not only made possible a championship but also surely bode well for their future
55	55	success; and
56	56	WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly find it appropriate to acknowledge
57	57	and applaud the Hillsboro Burros for their outstanding season on the hardwood; now, therefore,
58	58	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
59	59	FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
60	60	CONCURRING, that we honor and commend the Hillsboro Burros boys' basketball team upon
61	61	winning the 2025 TSSAA Division I, Class 4A state championship, the first in school history and
62	62	a historic title for Metro Nashville Public Schools, and extend to them our best wishes for every
63	63	continued success in all their future endeavors.

68	68	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
69	69	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
70	70	the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
