13 | 13 | | Bank of Tennessee on the occasion of its fiftieth |

16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly recognize those |
---|
17 | 17 | | dynamic financial institutions whose contributions have been vital to the economic life of their |
---|
18 | 18 | | respective communities; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, for the past five decades, First Peoples Bank of Tennessee has capably |
---|
20 | 20 | | served and earned the trust of customers throughout East Tennessee; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, originally known as First Peoples Bank of Jefferson City, the bank was |
---|
22 | 22 | | chartered by 725 stockholders on November 21, 1974; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, the bank's main branch was opened on January 2, 1975, with a total of six |
---|
24 | 24 | | employees; the bank operated in a portable building until it moved into its current Jefferson City |
---|
25 | 25 | | main office in May 1976; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, First Peoples Bank is the oldest and, currently, the only bank housed in |
---|
27 | 27 | | Jefferson County; additional branches have been opened in Dandridge (1976), Talbott (1979), |
---|
28 | 28 | | Strawberry Plains (1982), and West Knoxville (1998); and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, the bank changed its name to First Peoples Bank of Tennessee in 1994, |
---|
30 | 30 | | better reflecting its expanded operations in the Volunteer State; the bank currently operates five |
---|
31 | 31 | | branches, located in Jefferson, Hamblen, and Knox counties, as a state-chartered bank; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, in 2010, a group of local investors re-capitalized the bank and purchased all |
---|
33 | 33 | | of the bank's outstanding stock; at that time, the bank was rechartered as a "de novo" bank; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, the bank's stock is owned by First Peoples Bankcorp, Inc., a 100-percent |
---|
35 | 35 | | locally owned bank holding company based in Jefferson City; and |
