1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize and congratulate First Peoples
1313 Bank of Tennessee on the occasion of its fiftieth
1414 anniversary.

1616 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly recognize those
1717 dynamic financial institutions whose contributions have been vital to the economic life of their
1818 respective communities; and
1919 WHEREAS, for the past five decades, First Peoples Bank of Tennessee has capably
2020 served and earned the trust of customers throughout East Tennessee; and
2121 WHEREAS, originally known as First Peoples Bank of Jefferson City, the bank was
2222 chartered by 725 stockholders on November 21, 1974; and
2323 WHEREAS, the bank's main branch was opened on January 2, 1975, with a total of six
2424 employees; the bank operated in a portable building until it moved into its current Jefferson City
2525 main office in May 1976; and
2626 WHEREAS, First Peoples Bank is the oldest and, currently, the only bank housed in
2727 Jefferson County; additional branches have been opened in Dandridge (1976), Talbott (1979),
2828 Strawberry Plains (1982), and West Knoxville (1998); and
2929 WHEREAS, the bank changed its name to First Peoples Bank of Tennessee in 1994,
3030 better reflecting its expanded operations in the Volunteer State; the bank currently operates five
3131 branches, located in Jefferson, Hamblen, and Knox counties, as a state-chartered bank; and
3232 WHEREAS, in 2010, a group of local investors re-capitalized the bank and purchased all
3333 of the bank's outstanding stock; at that time, the bank was rechartered as a "de novo" bank; and
3434 WHEREAS, the bank's stock is owned by First Peoples Bankcorp, Inc., a 100-percent
3535 locally owned bank holding company based in Jefferson City; and

4040 WHEREAS, First Peoples Bank has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to
4141 excellence for half a century now, serving the individuals, families, businesses, and
4242 homeowners of East Tennessee with nothing less than the utmost professionalism and financial
4343 acumen; now, therefore,
4444 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
4545 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
4646 CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate the leadership, board members, and
4747 employees of First Peoples Bank of Tennessee on the occasion of the institution's fiftieth
4848 anniversary, commend their unflagging commitment to quality and integrity, and extend to them
4949 our best wishes for much continued success in the future.
5050 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
5151 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
5252 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
5353 without House or Senate designation.
