<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 593 By Stinnett HJR0593 007089 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to honor and commend the Blount Memorial Foundation and the City of Alcoa's inaugural Downtown Dash for Breast Cancer. WHEREAS, breast cancer remains one of the most significant health challenges facing women today, with one in eight women being diagnosed with this disease in her lifetime; and WHEREAS, early detection is the best protection against breast cancer, and by expanding access to critical screening and diagnostic services, lives can and will be saved; and WHEREAS, the inaugural Downtown Dash for Breast Cancer, to be held on May 10, 2025, in downtown Alcoa and hosted by the Blount Memorial Foundation, serves as a vital fundraising effort to support the expansion of breast cancer screening and diagnostic services at Prisma Health – Blount Memorial Hospital's Breast Center; and WHEREAS, the proceeds from this inaugural event will be used to help purchase a contrast-enhanced mammography machine, a crucial tool in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer that will further enhance the services available at Prisma Health – Blount Memorial Hospital's Breast Center; and WHEREAS, Prisma Health – Blount Memorial Hospital has been providing exceptional health care to the residents of Blount County and surrounding areas for seventy-eight years, serving as the county's only hospital and a trusted source of compassionate, high-quality medical care; and WHEREAS, last year alone, Prisma Health – Blount Memorial Hospital screened 12,217 individuals for breast cancer and diagnosed ninety-five individuals, highlighting the vital role the hospital plays in advancing health and saving lives in the Blount County community; and - 2 - 007089 WHEREAS, the Downtown Dash for Breast Cancer, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on May 10, 2025, will be the first breast cancer race to run through Alcoa, marking a historic moment for the city and the county; and WHEREAS, this will also be the first 5K race dedicated to breast cancer awareness and support hosted by the Blount Memorial Foundation and the first of its kind in Blount County, further underscoring its significance to the community; and WHEREAS, participants may choose to run in a timed race, walk the course at their own pace, or join the "Dash in Place" virtual option, ensuring that everyone, near or far, has the opportunity to participate and show their support; and WHEREAS, this special event, held on Mother's Day weekend, offers a meaningful occasion to honor and celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of those who have battled breast cancer, including our mothers, sisters, aunts, neighbors, loved ones, and friends; and WHEREAS, the Downtown Dash for Breast Cancer recognizes breast cancer survivors, honors the memory of those who have lost their courageous battle, and supports those who are currently fighting this disease with bravery and hope; and WHEREAS, this impactful event is made possible through the gracious support and partnership of the City of Alcoa, which has generously welcomed and is hosting this inaugural event in its community; and WHEREAS, we find it both fitting and proper to recognize the Blount Memorial Foundation for its unwavering commitment to expanding lifesaving services and improving health outcomes for the citizens of Blount County and to extend sincere gratitude to the City of Alcoa for its hospitality and dedication in hosting this inaugural Downtown Dash for Breast Cancer; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE - 3 - 007089 CONCURRING, that we honor and commend the Blount Memorial Foundation and the City of Alcoa for their leadership in presenting the inaugural Downtown Dash for Breast Cancer and for their steadfast efforts to expand access to breast cancer screening and diagnostic services at Prisma Health – Blount Memorial Hospital's Breast Center. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the survivors, fighters, and families whose stories inspire this important initiative and offer our best wishes for a successful and impactful Downtown Dash for Breast Cancer.
