15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to |

16 | 16 | | recognize and honor individuals who have given selflessly of their time, talents, and convictions |
---|
17 | 17 | | to preserve and promote the foundational values that strengthen our families, communities, and |
---|
18 | 18 | | nation; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, over the past twelve years, Marilyn and Vernon Holmes have made |
---|
20 | 20 | | invaluable contributions to the Dyer County Archives, ensuring that county records will be |
---|
21 | 21 | | available and easily accessible for generations to come; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Holmes has served as the archives' first permanent archivist since |
---|
23 | 23 | | the formation of the Public Records Commission, demonstrating unwavering dedication and |
---|
24 | 24 | | excellence throughout her tenure; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, as archivist, she has collaborated closely with the Public Records |
---|
26 | 26 | | Commission to determine which documents should be preserved and which could be |
---|
27 | 27 | | deaccessioned, resulting in the preservation of the majority of Dyer County records; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn and Vernon Holmes have proven to be an exceptional team, |
---|
29 | 29 | | investing a significant time in the damp basement beneath the Election Commission, |
---|
30 | 30 | | meticulously cleaning books, flattening papers, and conducting a comprehensive inventory of |
---|
31 | 31 | | records; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, during challenging moments, such as when a newly renovated county office |
---|
33 | 33 | | was struggling under the weight of oversized books, both Marilyn and Vernon Holmes chose to |
---|
34 | 34 | | remain committed to their work despite the uncertainty surrounding the building's stability; with |
---|
35 | 35 | | the opening of the latest location, they have worked tirelessly to establish an efficient |
---|

43 | 43 | | individuals of all backgrounds with their research needs, while Vernon Holmes contributes as a |

44 | 44 | | computer technician for the archives and has utilized his engineering skills to develop a detailed |
---|
45 | 45 | | plan for the optimal layout of the new workspace; and |

46 | 46 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn and Vernon Holmes have given freely of their time and talents to |
---|
47 | 47 | | enhance the Dyer County Archives, a tremendous gift to their contemporaries and future |
---|
48 | 48 | | residents alike; and |
---|
49 | 49 | | WHEREAS, it is both right and fitting that their remarkable public service be recognized |
---|
50 | 50 | | and celebrated; now, therefore, |

51 | 51 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRES ENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED |

53 | 53 | | CONCURRING, that we honor Marilyn and Vernon Holmes for their many contributions to the |

54 | 54 | | Dyer County Archives, extending our gratitude for their devotion to serving their community and |
---|
55 | 55 | | preserving the history of the place they call home. |

56 | 56 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared |
