1212 A RESOLUTION to honor Marilyn and Vernon Holmes for their
1313 contributions to the Dyer County Archives.

1515 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
1616 recognize and honor individuals who have given selflessly of their time, talents, and convictions
1717 to preserve and promote the foundational values that strengthen our families, communities, and
1818 nation; and
1919 WHEREAS, over the past twelve years, Marilyn and Vernon Holmes have made
2020 invaluable contributions to the Dyer County Archives, ensuring that county records will be
2121 available and easily accessible for generations to come; and
2222 WHEREAS, Marilyn Holmes has served as the archives' first permanent archivist since
2323 the formation of the Public Records Commission, demonstrating unwavering dedication and
2424 excellence throughout her tenure; and
2525 WHEREAS, as archivist, she has collaborated closely with the Public Records
2626 Commission to determine which documents should be preserved and which could be
2727 deaccessioned, resulting in the preservation of the majority of Dyer County records; and
2828 WHEREAS, Marilyn and Vernon Holmes have proven to be an exceptional team,
2929 investing a significant time in the damp basement beneath the Election Commission,
3030 meticulously cleaning books, flattening papers, and conducting a comprehensive inventory of
3131 records; and
3232 WHEREAS, during challenging moments, such as when a newly renovated county office
3333 was struggling under the weight of oversized books, both Marilyn and Vernon Holmes chose to
3434 remain committed to their work despite the uncertainty surrounding the building's stability; with
3535 the opening of the latest location, they have worked tirelessly to establish an efficient

4040 workspace, consistently exceeding expectations and even involving their grandchildren, who
4141 were visiting from St. Louis, Missouri, in the operation; and
4242 WHEREAS, Marilyn Holmes dedicates a significant amount of her time assisting
4343 individuals of all backgrounds with their research needs, while Vernon Holmes contributes as a
4444 computer technician for the archives and has utilized his engineering skills to develop a detailed
4545 plan for the optimal layout of the new workspace; and
4646 WHEREAS, Marilyn and Vernon Holmes have given freely of their time and talents to
4747 enhance the Dyer County Archives, a tremendous gift to their contemporaries and future
4848 residents alike; and
4949 WHEREAS, it is both right and fitting that their remarkable public service be recognized
5050 and celebrated; now, therefore,
5151 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRES ENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
5252 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
5353 CONCURRING, that we honor Marilyn and Vernon Holmes for their many contributions to the
5454 Dyer County Archives, extending our gratitude for their devotion to serving their community and
5555 preserving the history of the place they call home.
5656 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
5757 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
5858 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
5959 without House or Senate designation.
