A RESOLUTION to honor Coldplay for their musical, cultural, and 
philanthropic achievements. 
 
 WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly take great pleasure in recognizing 
one of the most influential and pioneering acts in the history of popular music; and 
 WHEREAS, founded in London in 1997, Coldplay are best known for their live 
performances and their impact on popular culture through their music, advocacy, and charitable 
contributions; and 
 WHEREAS, their debut album, Parachutes, featuring the breakthrough single "Yellow," 
earned a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, and the group's follow-up, A Rush of 
Blood to the Head, won the same accolade; and 
 WHEREAS, X&Y completed the trilogy and was shortlisted for Best Rock Album at the 
Grammy Awards; its successor, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, won the Grammy for 
Best Rock Album; and 
 WHEREAS, in subsequent albums, Coldplay have drawn from genres such as 
electronica, rhythm and blues, ambient, disco, funk, gospel, blues, and progressive rock; and 
 WHEREAS, with over 100 million albums sold worldwide, Coldplay are one of the best-
selling music acts of all time; they are also the first group in Spotify history to reach ninety 
million monthly listeners; and 
 WHEREAS, on the live front, Coldplay have two of the highest-grossing tours of all time 
and the most attended; and 
 WHEREAS, Coldplay have been credited with making each tour "its own dazzling, light-
up spectacular" and have been hailed as "one of the 21
st
 century's most enduring live acts"; and

 WHEREAS, Coldplay donate ten percent from all of their profits to charity and have 
endorsed and funded more than thirty organizations over the years; through their foundation, 
they donated more than £2.1 million to environmental causes in 2021 alone; and 
 WHEREAS, Coldplay have created a rich, multi-genre musical legacy that continues to 
inspire a variety of musicians and gratify an adoring fanbase, earning them distinction as one of 
the most influential and most successful bands of this century; and 
 WHEREAS, on July 22, 2025, Coldplay will bring their layered, yet accessible, music to 
Nashville for a concert at Nissan Stadium, and we wish to welcome them to Music City and the 
Volunteer State; now, therefore,  
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED 
FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE 
CONCURRING, that we honor Coldplay for their musical, cultural, and philanthropic 
achievements and thank band members Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will 
Champion, and Phil Harvey for their many contributions to music, culture, and society. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to 
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear 
without House or Senate designation.
