1212 A RESOLUTION to honor Laura Quering on being named the
1313 2024-2025 Educator of the Year by the Down
1414 Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee.

1616 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should specially
1717 recognize those outstanding teachers who have devoted their careers to providing the highest-
1818 quality education for Tennessee's students; and
1919 WHEREAS, one such estimable educator is Laura Quering, who has distinguished
2020 herself as a professional of the greatest dedication, ability, and integrity; and
2121 WHEREAS, Ms. Quering was recently named the 2024-2025 Educator of the Year by
2222 the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee, a most befitting honor that recognizes
2323 her excellence in supporting and educating students with Down syndrome; and
2424 WHEREAS, the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee launched its
2525 Educator of the Year Award program to honor the work of an educator who has demonstrated a
2626 commitment to the educations of students with Down syndrome; and
2727 WHEREAS, a kindergarten teacher at Trinity Elementary School in Williamson County,
2828 Laura Quering is a highly regarded educator who works assiduously to motivate her students to
2929 reach their full potential, both as scholars and as citizens; and
3030 WHEREAS, a true blessing to her students, Ms. Quering is patient and understanding,
3131 working diligently to ensure that each of her students is fully included in all aspects of the Trinity
3232 Elementary School community; and
3333 WHEREAS, one in 700, or around 6,000, babies are born with Down syndrome in the
3434 United States every year, and each person with Down syndrome is an important member of
3535 society; and

4040 WHEREAS, the life expectancy for people with Down syndrome has increased
4141 dramatically, from twenty-five years of age in 1983 to sixty years of age in 2023; and
4242 WHEREAS, people with Down Syndrome attend school and work, participate in
4343 decisions that affect their livelihood, have meaningful relationships, vote, and contribute to
4444 society in many ways; and
4545 WHEREAS, research has shown that employees with disabilities, including Down
4646 syndrome, are loyal, dedicated, and productive workers; and
4747 WHEREAS, research has also shown that people with Down syndrome can learn to read
4848 and to otherwise excel in the educational setting; and
4949 WHEREAS, rigorous and quality education of students with Down syndrome is essential
5050 to their ability to live meaningful, productive lives; and
5151 WHEREAS, inclusive education, which is mandated by federal and state laws, is an
5252 integral component of educating students with Down syndrome; and
5353 WHEREAS, the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee works with families,
5454 educators, and school systems to promote and ensure best practices for the education of
5555 students with Down syndrome in an effort to support them in becoming full members of our
5656 society; and
5757 WHEREAS, Laura Quering serves as an inspiration to her colleagues and students
5858 alike, and her friendship and counsel are highly valued by those who are fortunate to know her;

6060 WHEREAS, Ms. Quering truly epitomizes the dedicated teacher who is wholly committed
6161 to the highest ideals of public service and quality education for all, and she should be specially
6262 recognized; now, therefore,

6969 CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and congratulate Laura Quering on her selection as the
7070 2024-2025 Educator of the Year by the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee,
7171 commend her exceptional service to the children of Tennessee, salute her professional
7272 expertise and personal excellence, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
7373 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
7474 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
7575 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
7676 without House or Senate designation.
