<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 693 By Keisling HJR0693 007951 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to recognize Billy Robbins on the occasion of his retirement. WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should specially recognize those citizens who have performed with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout their years of industry; and WHEREAS, Billy Robbins is one such estimable person, who has served since 2012 as executive director of the Byrdstown/Pickett County Chamber of Commerce, from which position he will soon take his well-deserved retirement; and WHEREAS, a 1968 graduate of Pickett County High School, Billy Robbins holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Business from Tennessee Technological University and has completed a one-year Master of Business Administration program; and WHEREAS, a proud military veteran, Mr. Robbins served with distinction in the United States Army from September 1972 to September 1974, working in Fire Direction Control; and WHEREAS, during his military career, he saw duty in the United States, Germany and Vietnam; he was trained to give data for 8MM cannon fire in an air mobile unit and also served as Headquarters Battery Clerk for six months, reaching the rank of E-5 before receiving his honorable discharge; and WHEREAS, in 1975, Mr. Robbins became a partner and owner of Robbins Auto Service in Byrdstown, which performed repairs and services on all makes of automobiles; he operated the business until September 2002 and served generations of customers during those twenty- seven years; and WHEREAS, offering himself for public service, Billy Robbins was elected Mayor of the City of Byrdstown in August 2002 and held that esteemed position until August 2010, rendering - 2 - 007951 sterling service to his community as a full-time mayor who was responsible for all aspects of city operations; and WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, he is a devout member of First Christian Church in Byrdstown, which he has served as a deacon and elder for many years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Robbins's remarkable accomplishments as a community leader are directly attributable to his reliance on the time-honored values of hard work and common sense and his uncommon ability to work well with people from all walks of life; and WHEREAS, in his every endeavor, Mr. Robbins has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Judy; his children, Derrick Robbins, Stacy Cross, and Marcy Little; and his grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Billy Robbins is wholly committed to the noble precepts of public service that have earned Tennessee recognition as the Volunteer State, and he should be specially recognized; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we commend Billy Robbins for his honorable and astute service to the citizens of Byrdstown and Pickett County and extend to him our heartfelt wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement and every continued success in his future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
