12	12	A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Richard Ransom of
13	13	Memphis.

15	15	WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should salute those citizens who, through their
16	16	extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as community leaders of whom we can all
17	17	be proud; and
18	18	WHEREAS, one such noteworthy person is Richard Ransom, a highly respected
19	19	journalist, television news anchor, and community advocate who has enriched the lives of the
20	20	citizens in the Memphis area for many years; and
21	21	WHEREAS, Mr. Ransom's journey began in Peoria, Illinois, moving on to Jacksonville,
22	22	Florida, before ultimately landing in Memphis; apart from a three-year stint in Milwaukee,
23	23	Wisconsin, he has dedicated nearly his entire professional life to being a trusted information
24	24	source for the citizens of Bluff City, earning numerous Emmy awards for his outstanding
25	25	contributions to journalism along the way; and
26	26	WHEREAS, his career started as a researcher for the ABC News London bureau, a role
27	27	that laid the foundation for his passion for storytelling and investigative reporting; and
28	28	WHEREAS, during his time at WATN-TV in Memphis, Richard Ransom has been a
29	29	cornerstone of the newsroom, breaking major stories, conducting exclusive interviews, and
30	30	sharing his wealth of institutional knowledge; his leadership and unwavering commitment have
31	31	made him a trusted voice for both routine and breaking news coverage; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Mr. Ransom's enthusiasm for politics has shone through his role as a host
33	33	for statewide televised debates, including those for U.S. Senate and Tennessee gubernatorial
34	34	races; most recently, he earned widespread acclaim for moderating what many considered the
35	35	standout debate of the Memphis mayoral race; and

40	40	WHEREAS, he also had the honor of interviewing President Barack Obama at the White
41	41	House, a highlight of his already illustrious career; and
42	42	WHEREAS, Richard Ransom revitalized ABC 24's This Week, transforming it into a
43	43	must-watch program for both viewers and community leaders; and
44	44	WHEREAS, with authenticity at the heart of his work, Mr. Ransom has been deeply
45	45	committed to presenting a balanced and honest portrayal of Memphis, particularly when
46	46	addressing the complexities of crime; rejecting the "crime all the time" narrative, he has
47	47	championed transparency and context, ensuring viewers receive the full story; and
48	48	WHEREAS, he has also been a vocal advocate for the community, holding politicians
49	49	accountable and celebrating the generosity of Memphians through initiatives such as the "Pass
50	50	It On" segment; his efforts to improve public health standards, including urging local restaurants
51	51	to "Clean Up!" after health inspection failures, have further cemented his legacy; and
52	52	WHEREAS, Richard Ransom epitomizes the spirit and commitment to community that
53	53	are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and
54	54	WHEREAS, Mr. Ransom's dedication to journalism has inspired his colleagues and
55	55	elevated the standards of reporting in Memphis, and it is our privilege to recognize his important
56	56	contributions to this State and its citizens; now, therefore,
57	57	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
58	58	FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor and
59	59	commend Richard Ransom for his countless contributions to journalism and his service to the
60	60	citizens of Memphis, extending to him our best wishes for much continued success.
61	61	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
62	62	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
