1212 A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Richard Ransom of
1313 Memphis.

1515 WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should salute those citizens who, through their
1616 extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as community leaders of whom we can all
1717 be proud; and
1818 WHEREAS, one such noteworthy person is Richard Ransom, a highly respected
1919 journalist, television news anchor, and community advocate who has enriched the lives of the
2020 citizens in the Memphis area for many years; and
2121 WHEREAS, Mr. Ransom's journey began in Peoria, Illinois, moving on to Jacksonville,
2222 Florida, before ultimately landing in Memphis; apart from a three-year stint in Milwaukee,
2323 Wisconsin, he has dedicated nearly his entire professional life to being a trusted information
2424 source for the citizens of Bluff City, earning numerous Emmy awards for his outstanding
2525 contributions to journalism along the way; and
2626 WHEREAS, his career started as a researcher for the ABC News London bureau, a role
2727 that laid the foundation for his passion for storytelling and investigative reporting; and
2828 WHEREAS, during his time at WATN-TV in Memphis, Richard Ransom has been a
2929 cornerstone of the newsroom, breaking major stories, conducting exclusive interviews, and
3030 sharing his wealth of institutional knowledge; his leadership and unwavering commitment have
3131 made him a trusted voice for both routine and breaking news coverage; and
3232 WHEREAS, Mr. Ransom's enthusiasm for politics has shone through his role as a host
3333 for statewide televised debates, including those for U.S. Senate and Tennessee gubernatorial
3434 races; most recently, he earned widespread acclaim for moderating what many considered the
3535 standout debate of the Memphis mayoral race; and

4040 WHEREAS, he also had the honor of interviewing President Barack Obama at the White
4141 House, a highlight of his already illustrious career; and
4242 WHEREAS, Richard Ransom revitalized ABC 24's This Week, transforming it into a
4343 must-watch program for both viewers and community leaders; and
4444 WHEREAS, with authenticity at the heart of his work, Mr. Ransom has been deeply
4545 committed to presenting a balanced and honest portrayal of Memphis, particularly when
4646 addressing the complexities of crime; rejecting the "crime all the time" narrative, he has
4747 championed transparency and context, ensuring viewers receive the full story; and
4848 WHEREAS, he has also been a vocal advocate for the community, holding politicians
4949 accountable and celebrating the generosity of Memphians through initiatives such as the "Pass
5050 It On" segment; his efforts to improve public health standards, including urging local restaurants
5151 to "Clean Up!" after health inspection failures, have further cemented his legacy; and
5252 WHEREAS, Richard Ransom epitomizes the spirit and commitment to community that
5353 are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and
5454 WHEREAS, Mr. Ransom's dedication to journalism has inspired his colleagues and
5555 elevated the standards of reporting in Memphis, and it is our privilege to recognize his important
5656 contributions to this State and its citizens; now, therefore,
5757 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
5858 FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor and
5959 commend Richard Ransom for his countless contributions to journalism and his service to the
6060 citizens of Memphis, extending to him our best wishes for much continued success.
6161 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
6262 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
