12	12	A RESOLUTION to recognize Nancy Anness on the occasion of
13	13	her retirement.

15	15	WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the members of this legislative body should honor
16	16	those citizens who, through their extraordinary efforts and steadfast commitment to service,
17	17	have distinguished themselves in their professions; and
18	18	WHEREAS, one such estimable individual is Nancy Anness, who is taking a well-earned
19	19	retirement on April 30, 2025, following an exceptional thirty-year career with Ascension Saint
20	20	Thomas, where she has served with dedication, leadership, and a passion for improving
21	21	healthcare access and outcomes for all; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Ms. Anness began her journey with Ascension Saint Thomas in 1995, after
23	23	being recruited from Vanderbilt University as a family nurse practitioner and manager and
24	24	charged with the vital mission of launching clinics to serve the poor and vulnerable by the
25	25	Daughters of Charity; and
26	26	WHEREAS, in pursuit of that mission, Nancy Anness was instrumental in founding the
27	27	Saint Thomas Family Health Center West, the first comprehensive Saint Thomas Mobile Health
28	28	Clinic in Middle Tennessee; the Saint Thomas Preston Taylor Clinic; and the Saint Thomas Holy
29	29	Family Health Center; and
30	30	WHEREAS, in addition to her administrative leadership, Ms. Anness continued her direct
31	31	clinical practice, eventually becoming the executive director of the health centers while
32	32	continuing to provide care throughout the week; even today, she devotes one day each week to
33	33	offering charity care for those most in need; and
34	34	WHEREAS, Nancy Anness was promoted in 2008 to Vice President of Advocacy and
35	35	Healthcare Access, a role that later evolved into the Chief Advocacy Officer position she has
36	36	since held with distinction; and

41	41	WHEREAS, she has been a strong leader in government relations at the federal, state,
42	42	and local levels for many years, driving important initiatives in public policy to ensure access to
43	43	high-quality health care and the sustainability of Catholic health care for all; and
44	44	WHEREAS, Ms. Anness also spearheaded the creation and growth of the Medical
45	45	Mission at Home initiative, and she continues to make significant contributions to the broader
46	46	healthcare community; and
47	47	WHEREAS, a trusted and respected professional, Nancy Anness has served with
48	48	distinction on numerous boards, including Diocese Mary Queen of Angels, Tennessee Board of
49	49	Nursing, Tennessee Hospital Association Government Affairs Council, AccessTN, and the
50	50	Safety Net Consortium of Middle Tennessee; and
51	51	WHEREAS, throughout her estimable career, Ms. Anness has demonstrated the utmost
52	52	professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the sincere respect and admiration of her
53	53	colleagues and the citizens of the State of Tennessee; now, therefore,
54	54	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
55	55	FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor and
56	56	commend Nancy Anness for her thirty years of exemplary service to Ascension Saint Thomas
57	57	and the people of Tennessee, congratulate her on the occasion of her retirement, and extend to
58	58	her our best wishes for every continued success and happiness in the years to come.
59	59	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
60	60	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
