1212 AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 63,
1313 relative to licensing requirements for professional
1414 counselors.

1616 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
1717 SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-22-104(3)(B), is amended by
1818 deleting the language "Has obtained" and substituting "Except as provided in subsection (b),
1919 has obtained".
2020 SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-22-104, is amended by
2121 designating the existing language as subsection (a), and adding the following as a new
2222 subsection (b):
2323 (b) Subdivision (a)(3)(B) does not apply to an applicant for licensure as a
2424 professional counselor if:
2525 (1) The applicant has a valid, unencumbered license as a professional
2626 counselor issued by another state, territory, or federal district of the United
2727 States; and
2828 (2) The requirements for licensure as a professional counselor by that
2929 issuing state, territory, or federal district are judged to be acceptable by the
3030 board.
3131 SECTION 3. For the purpose of promulgating rules to effectuate this act, this act takes
3232 effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it. For all other purposes, this act takes
3333 effect July 1, 2025, the public welfare requiring it.
