| 17 | 17 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: |

| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-51-206(b), is amended by adding |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the following new subdivisions: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | ( ) "Emergency medical responder" means an emergency medical technician, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | emergency medical technician-paramedic, or paramedic; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | ( ) "Law enforcement officer" means an individual employed by this state or a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | local government as a member of a law enforcement agency whose primary |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | responsibility is the prevention and detection of crime and the apprehension of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | offenders; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-51-206(b)(1), is amended by |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | deleting the subdivision and substituting: |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (1) "Employer" means: |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (A) A municipality, county, metropolitan form of government, or other |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | political subdivision of this state that employs firefighters, law enforcement |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | officers, or emergency medical responders; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (B) This state or an agency of this state for purposes of employment of a |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | law enforcement officer; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-51-206, is amended by deleting |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | from subsections (c) and (d) the language "firefighter" and substituting "firefighter, law |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | enforcement officer, or emergency medical responder"; and is further amended by deleting from |
|---|
