1313 AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 7,
1414 Chapter 51 and Title 50, Chapter 6, relative to
1515 post-traumatic stress disorder in first responders.

1717 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
1818 SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-51-206(b), is amended by adding
1919 the following new subdivisions:
2020 ( ) "Emergency medical responder" means an emergency medical technician,
2121 emergency medical technician-paramedic, or paramedic;
2222 ( ) "Law enforcement officer" means an individual employed by this state or a
2323 local government as a member of a law enforcement agency whose primary
2424 responsibility is the prevention and detection of crime and the apprehension of
2525 offenders;
2626 SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-51-206(b)(1), is amended by
2727 deleting the subdivision and substituting:
2828 (1) "Employer" means:
2929 (A) A municipality, county, metropolitan form of government, or other
3030 political subdivision of this state that employs firefighters, law enforcement
3131 officers, or emergency medical responders;
3232 (B) This state or an agency of this state for purposes of employment of a
3333 law enforcement officer;
3434 SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-51-206, is amended by deleting
3535 from subsections (c) and (d) the language "firefighter" and substituting "firefighter, law
3636 enforcement officer, or emergency medical responder"; and is further amended by deleting from

4141 subsection (d) the language "firefighter's" and substituting "firefighter's, law enforcement
4242 officer's, or emergency medical responder's"; and is further amended by deleting from
4343 subsection (d) the language "fire department".
4444 SECTION 4. This act takes effect July 1, 2025, the public welfare requiring it.
