| 16 | 15 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: |

| 17 | 16 | | SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 40-29-202, is amended by deleting |

| 18 | 17 | | subdivision (b)(2). |
|---|
| 19 | 18 | | SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 40-29-202(c), is amended by |
|---|
| 20 | 19 | | deleting "unless the person is current in all child support obligations" and substituting "unless |
|---|
| 21 | 20 | | the person is compliant with all current child support orders, including orders related to child |
|---|
| 22 | 21 | | support arrearages". |
|---|
| 23 | 22 | | SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 40-29-204, is amended by deleting |
|---|
| 24 | 23 | | the following language: |
|---|
| 25 | 24 | | Notwithstanding this part, the following persons shall never be eligible to register |
|---|
| 26 | 25 | | and vote in this state: |
|---|
| 27 | 26 | | and substituting instead: |
|---|
| 28 | 27 | | Notwithstanding this part, the following persons are ineligible to register and vote |
|---|
| 29 | 28 | | in this state, unless at least three (3) years have elapsed since the person's |
|---|
| 30 | 29 | | sentence completion date, and the person has met all other qualifications to |
|---|
| 31 | 30 | | restore their right of suffrage: |

| 32 | 31 | | SECTION 4. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 40-29-105, is amended by deleting |

| 33 | 32 | | subdivision (b)(2) and substituting: |
|---|
| 34 | 33 | | (2) A person rendered infamous after July 1, 1986, by virtue of being convicted |
|---|
| 35 | 34 | | of first degree murder, aggravated rape, treason, or voter fraud is ineligible to register |
|---|
| 41 | 40 | | sentence completion date, and the person has met all other qualifications to restore their |
|---|
| 42 | 41 | | right of suffrage. |

| 43 | 42 | | SECTION 5. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 40-29-105(c)(2)(B), is amended by |

| 44 | 43 | | deleting the subdivision and substituting: |
|---|
| 45 | 44 | | (B) A person convicted of an infamous crime may petition for restoration upon |
|---|
| 46 | 45 | | the expiration of the maximum sentence imposed by the court for the infamous crime; |
|---|
| 47 | 46 | | provided, that a person convicted of murder, rape, treason, or voter fraud is ineligible to |
|---|
| 48 | 47 | | register and vote in this state unless at least three (3) years have elapsed since the |
|---|
| 49 | 48 | | person's sentence completion date, and the person has met all other qualifications to |
|---|
| 50 | 49 | | restore their right of suffrage; |
|---|
| 51 | 50 | | SECTION 6. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it. |
