| 16 | 15 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: |

| 17 | 16 | | SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 13-7-403(a)(1), is amended by |

| 18 | 17 | | deleting the following language: |

| 19 | 18 | | The terms of members of the historic zoning commission shall be five (5) years, |
|---|
| 20 | 19 | | except that the members appointed initially shall be appointed for staggered |
|---|
| 21 | 20 | | terms so that the terms of at least one (1) member but not more than two (2) |
|---|
| 22 | 21 | | members shall expire each year. |
|---|
| 23 | 22 | | and substituting instead: |
|---|
| 24 | 23 | | The terms of members of the historic zoning commission shall be six (6) years, |
|---|
| 25 | 24 | | except that the members appointed initially shall be appointed for staggered |
|---|
| 26 | 25 | | terms so that the terms of at least one (1) member but not more than two (2) |
|---|
| 27 | 26 | | members shall expire each year. |

| 28 | 27 | | SECTION 2. Members of historic zoning commissions on the effective date of this act |
|---|
| 29 | 28 | | shall serve out the term for which they were elected, and their terms are not extended. As the |
|---|
| 30 | 29 | | terms expire, the chief executive making appointments to fill vacancies on the historic zoning |
|---|
| 31 | 30 | | commission shall appoint members to six-year terms. |
|---|
| 32 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it. |
