1313 AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49,
1414 relative to artificial intelligence.

1616 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
1717 SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, Chapter 6, Part 10, is amended by
1818 adding the following as a new section:
1919 (a) Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, each LEA and public charter school
2020 shall provide age-appropriate instruction to students on how to access, utilize, and
2121 critically evaluate various artificial intelligence tools within the curriculum taught by the
2222 educator. The instruction must be aligned with the guidance issued by the department
2323 of education pursuant to subsection (b).
2424 (b) The department of education shall issue guidance to LEAs and public charter
2525 schools on how to implement subsection (a). The guidance must include, but is not
2626 limited to, the following instructional components:
2727 (1) Introducing basic artificial intelligence concepts;
2828 (2) Demonstrating practical applications of artificial intelligence;
2929 (3) Teaching responsible artificial intelligence usage;
3030 (4) How to access relevant artificial intelligence tools; and
3131 (5) Developing critical thinking skills to analyze artificial intelligence.
3232 (c) Subject to available funding, the department of education shall provide a
3333 professional development program in artificial intelligence education for educators.
3434 SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
