16 | 16 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: |

17 | 17 | | SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, Chapter 6, Part 10, is amended by |
---|
18 | 18 | | adding the following as a new section: |
---|
19 | 19 | | (a) Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, each LEA and public charter school |
---|
20 | 20 | | shall provide age-appropriate instruction to students on how to access, utilize, and |
---|
21 | 21 | | critically evaluate various artificial intelligence tools within the curriculum taught by the |
---|
22 | 22 | | educator. The instruction must be aligned with the guidance issued by the department |
---|
23 | 23 | | of education pursuant to subsection (b). |
---|
24 | 24 | | (b) The department of education shall issue guidance to LEAs and public charter |
---|
25 | 25 | | schools on how to implement subsection (a). The guidance must include, but is not |
---|
26 | 26 | | limited to, the following instructional components: |
---|
27 | 27 | | (1) Introducing basic artificial intelligence concepts; |
---|
28 | 28 | | (2) Demonstrating practical applications of artificial intelligence; |
---|
29 | 29 | | (3) Teaching responsible artificial intelligence usage; |
---|
30 | 30 | | (4) How to access relevant artificial intelligence tools; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | (5) Developing critical thinking skills to analyze artificial intelligence. |
---|
32 | 32 | | (c) Subject to available funding, the department of education shall provide a |
---|
33 | 33 | | professional development program in artificial intelligence education for educators. |
---|
34 | 34 | | SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it. |
