1312 AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39,
1413 Chapter 17, Part 13, relative to firearms.

1615 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
1716 SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1352(a)(6), is amended by
1817 deleting "§ 39-17-1360" and substituting "§ 39-17-1353".
1918 SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1358(b), is amended by
2019 deleting "§ 39-17-1360" and substituting "§ 39-17-1353".
2120 SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1359, is amended by deleting
2221 the section and substituting:
2322 (a) Except as provided in § 39-17-1313, this section does not preclude an
2423 individual, corporation, business entity, or local, state, or federal government entity or
2524 agent thereof from posting signage in prominent locations advising patrons that anyone
2625 possessing a firearm on the premises may be denied admission onto the premises or
2726 required to leave the premises by the owner or manager.
2827 (b)
2928 (1) Except as provided in subdivision (b)(2), this section does not
3029 authorize an entity of local government or a permittee thereof to enact or enforce
3130 a prohibition or restriction on the possession of a handgun by an enhanced
3231 handgun carry permit holder or concealed handgun carry permit holder on
3332 property owned or administered by the entity unless:
3433 (A) The following are provided at each public entrance to the
3534 property:
35+ (i) Metal detection devices; and

40- (i) Metal detection devices; and
4140 (ii) At least one (1) law enforcement or private security
4241 officer who has been adequately trained to conduct inspections of
4342 persons entering the property by use of metal detection devices;
4443 and
4544 (B) Each person who enters the property through the public
4645 entrance when the property is open to the public and any bag, package,
4746 and other container carried by the person is inspected by a law
4847 enforcement or private security officer described in subdivision
4948 (b)(1)(A)(ii) or an authorized representative with the authority to deny
5049 entry to the property.
5150 (2) The restrictions in subdivision (b)(1) do not apply to:
5251 (A) Facilities that are licensed under title 33, title 37, or title 68;
5352 (B) Property on which firearms are prohibited by § 39-17-1309 or
5453 § 39-17-1311(b)(1)(H)(ii);
5554 (C) Property on which firearms are prohibited by § 39-17-1306 at
5655 all times regardless of whether judicial proceedings are in progress;
5756 (D) Buildings that contain a law enforcement agency, as defined
5857 in § 39-13-519;
5958 (E) Libraries; or
6059 (F) Facilities that are licensed by the department of human
6160 services under title 71, chapter 3, part 5, and administer a Head Start
6261 program.
6362 SECTION 4. This act takes effect July 1, 2025, the public welfare requiring it.
