13+AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 55,
14+Chapter 21 and Title 55, Chapter 4, relative to
15+veterans with disabilities.

2017 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
2118 SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 55-21-106, is amended by deleting
2219 subsection (h) and substituting instead:
23-(h)(1) A veteran who qualifies for issuance of a registration and license plate issued
24-free to disabled veterans under the authority of§ 55-4-256 may, in lieu of issuance of
25-that plate, apply to be issued free a distinguishing placard for disabled veterans.
26-(2) A veteran who has applied for and been issued a registration and license
27-plate issued free to disabled veterans under the authority of § 55-4-256 may apply to
28-also be issued a distinguishing placard for disabled veterans upon payment of the
29-cost of the placard, which must be the same as the regular fee for passenger motor
30-vehicles, as provided in§ 55-4-111.

22+plate issued free to disabled veterans under the authority of § 55-4-256 may, in
23+lieu of issuance of that plate, apply to be issued free a distinguishing placard for
24+disabled veterans.
25+(2) A veteran who has applied for and been issued a registration and
26+license plate issued free to disabled veterans under the authority of § 55-4-256
27+may apply to also be issued a distinguishing placard for disabled veterans upon

3130 (3) The distinguishing placard for disabled veterans issued under this
3231 subsection (h) may be used in lieu of any distinguishing license plate for parking
33-purposes when displayed in accordance with the directions written on or supplied with
34-the placard. The department may establish procedures for the issuance of the
35-disabled veteran placards.
36-(i) As used in this section, "certificate" includes registration and license plates issued
37-free to disabled veterans under the authority of § 55-4-256, and distinguishing placards
38-issued to disabled veterans under subsection (h).
39-SECTION 2. This act takes effect July 1, 2026, the public welfare requiring it. PASSED:
