1212 AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 62,
1313 Chapter 5, relative to funeral directors and
1414 embalmers.

1616 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
1717 SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 62-5-305(b), is amended by deleting
1818 subdivision (7) and substituting the following:
1919 (7) Has completed two (2) years of apprenticeship in the presence of and under
2020 the direction and supervision of a licensed funeral director. An associate degree, or the
2121 completion of a program of study in funeral service education, as provided in subdivision
2222 (b)(6), may be substituted for one (1) year of apprenticeship.
2323 SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 62-5-305, is amended by adding the
2424 following as a new subsection:
2525 (c)
2626 (1) The completion of thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter
2727 hours in funeral service education or the equivalent from a school accredited by
2828 the American Board of Funeral Service Education, as provided in subdivision
2929 (b)(6), may be substituted for one (1) year of apprenticeship.
3030 (2) The applicant may fulfill the hourly educational requirement under
3131 subdivision (b)(6) and substitute such hours for one (1) year of apprenticeship
3232 under subdivision (c)(1) and complete the second year of apprenticeship
3333 concurrently in a single calendar year.
3434 SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
