12	12	A RESOLUTION to recognize and honor Mary Nell Bryan on the
13	13	occasion of her retirement.

15	15	WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
16	16	specially recognize those estimable Tennesseans who have dedicated themselves to improving
17	17	the quality of life for their fellow citizens; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Mary Nell Bryan is one such individual, who, after twenty years as executive
19	19	director of the Children's Hospital Alliance of Tennessee (CHAT), took her well-deserved
20	20	retirement on May 24, 2024; and
21	21	WHEREAS, CHAT is an advocacy organization dedicated to advancing the quality of
22	22	care for all children in Tennessee; since its founding in 2004, the organization has held fast to
23	23	its mission of ensuring that Tennessee has the best supported nonprofit comprehensive
24	24	children's hospitals in the country to provide quality health care for our State's children; and
25	25	WHEREAS, from CHAT's inception until her retirement, Ms. Bryan stood faithfully at the
26	26	helm, working to inform the State's elected representatives and their staff of issues impacting
27	27	children's health; she was a leader in advocating for additional funding to support the pediatric
28	28	mental and behavioral health crisis affecting children across the State; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Mary Nell Bryan worked with leaders to support the statewide expansion of
30	30	CoverKids, the passage of smoke-free workplace legislation, the passage of the child safety
31	31	seat law, the statewide expansion of Coordinated School Health, and the Katie Beckett
32	32	expansion, which increased physical activity in schools and improved nutrition standards in
33	33	Tennessee school vending machines and cafeterias; and
34	34	WHEREAS, throughout her exemplary tenure as executive director, Ms. Bryan has
35	35	carried out her responsibilities with diligence and integrity; her remarkable success as a public

40	40	servant and civic leader has been directly attributable to her reliance on the time-honored
41	41	values of hard work and common sense and her uncommon ability to work well with people from
42	42	all walks of life; and
43	43	WHEREAS, a strong advocate for the children of Tennessee, Ms. Bryan has compiled a
44	44	singular record of success during her exemplary career, and she should be specially
45	45	recognized; now, therefore,
46	46	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
47	47	GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
48	48	REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we recognize and honor Mary Nell Bryan on the
49	49	occasion of her retirement as executive director of Children's Hospital Alliance of Tennessee,
50	50	extending our best wishes for every future success and happiness.
51	51	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
52	52	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
53	53	the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
54	54	without House or Senate designation.
