1212 A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of the four Donaldson
1313 brothers of Dickson County on the occasion of
1414 their posthumously receiving The Ambassador
1515 For Peace Medal.

1717 WHEREAS, our nation was conceived by individuals who were willing to sacrifice their
1818 personal safety and concerns to ensure our individual and collective freedom, and the Volunteer
1919 State is especially proud to be the home of so many valiant men and women who performed
2020 above and beyond the call of duty; and
2121 WHEREAS, the citizens of Tennessee have, throughout the years, been called upon to
2222 take up arms against the enemies of this great nation, risking their lives and leaving their loved
2323 ones behind to honorably safeguard the freedoms and liberties guaranteed to all citizens of
2424 these United States and vanquishing those who threaten our way of life; and
2525 WHEREAS, while the heroic deeds of Tennesseans have been extolled throughout the
2626 history of our State and nation, the distinguished military service of every proud Tennessean
2727 should be illuminated, shared, and properly honored; and
2828 WHEREAS, four such individuals are the Donaldson brothers of Dickson County, all of
2929 whom served simultaneously in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War, an American
3030 record for that conflict; and
3131 WHEREAS, on August 6, 2024, Thomas Harvel Donaldson, Ernest Melvin Donaldson,
3232 Arie Gafford Donaldson, and Arthur Preston Donaldson were posthumously awarded The
3333 Ambassador For Peace Medals by the Republic of South Korea as an expression of that
3434 nation's appreciation; and
3535 WHEREAS, the late Thomas Harvel Donaldson served in the U.S. Air Force in World
3636 War II, Korea, and Vietnam; the late Ernest Melvin Donaldson served in the U.S. Army in Korea;

4141 the late Arie Gafford Donaldson also served in the U.S. Army in Korea; and the late Arthur
4242 Preston Donaldson served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Vietnam; and
4343 WHEREAS, while no offering can properly relay our gratitude for their bravery and
4444 dedication to preserving the blessed freedom that is inseparable from our American heritage
4545 and ideals, it is most appropriate that we should honor the Donaldson brothers to the full extent
4646 of our ability, as they made untold and innumerable sacrifices to preserve the liberties we enjoy
4747 today; now, therefore,
4848 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
4949 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
5050 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that on the occasion of their posthumous receipt of The
5151 Ambassador For Peace Medal from the Republic of South Korea, we honor the memory of
5252 Thomas Harvel Donaldson, Ernest Melvin Donaldson, Arie Gafford Donaldson, and Arthur
5353 Preston Donaldson and commend their courageous service to our nation as four of Tennessee's
5454 most heroic citizens.
5555 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
5656 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
5757 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
5858 without House or Senate designation.
