A RESOLUTION to confirm the appointment of John Compton to
the board of trustees of the University of
Tennessee.
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-201, provides for the governance
of the University of Tennessee by the board of trustees; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-202, provides that the governor
shall appoint ten members to the board of trustees of the University of Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee has appointed John Compton to the board of trustees of
the University of Tennessee for a term that expires June 30, 2030; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Mr. Compton is the former chief
executive officer of PepsiCo Americas Foods; he also served as the chief executive officer of
Pilot Flying J and has served as an advisor to Pilot Flying J, the Haslam family, and the
Cleveland Browns; and
WHEREAS, in 2013, he joined a New York private equity firm, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice
as an operating advisor; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Compton brings valuable experience and knowledge to the board of
trustees; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-9-202, provides that each member
appointed by the governor to the board of trustees of the University of Tennessee shall be
confirmed by joint resolution of the General Assembly; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF

REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that this body does hereby confirm the appointment of
John Compton to the board of trustees of the University of Tennessee for a term that expires
June 30, 2030.
