A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Margaret Southerland of 
Rutledge. 
 
 WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of 
the passing of Margaret Southerland; and 
 WHEREAS, Margaret Southerland was an exemplary public servant and consummate 
professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for her fellow citizens in 
numerous capacities; and 
 WHEREAS, Ms. Southerland served with acumen and alacrity as a certified pharmacy 
technician at Smiths Drug Store for forty-three years, in which position she earned the respect 
of her peers and superiors alike for the exemplary quality of her work; and 
 WHEREAS, Margaret Southerland was an active and devout member of Mitchell Springs 
Baptist Church, which she served faithfully for fifty-four years; and 
 WHEREAS, deeply devoted to her family, Ms. Southerland always endeavored to 
remain true to family values of the highest order; and 
 WHEREAS, Margaret Southerland was the proud mother of Frank "Darrell" (Sherry) 
Southerland; grandmother of Samarah (Buford) Rosser, Nicole (Dale) Johnson, and Harmon 
(Grayce) Southerland; and great-grandmother of Brandon Rosser, Steven Rosser, and Asher 
Johnson; and 
 WHEREAS, Ms. Southerland is further survived by her brother, Johnny Boatman; 
special daughter, Misty Boatman; special friends, Shirley Dyer and Amy Hurd; and a host of 
nieces and nephews; and 
 WHEREAS, in addition to her parents, Lewis and Stella Boatman, Ms. Southerland was 
preceded in death by her husband, Frank Southerland, Jr.; brothers, Don Boatman and Mac 
Boatman; sisters, Tina Byrd and Donna Guinn; many aunts and uncles; and special friends, 
Doug Smith and Shelby Roach; and

 WHEREAS, Margaret Southerland leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and 
probity in public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all 
her chosen endeavors; and 
 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to 
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESS EE, THE HOUSE OF 
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Margaret Southerland, 
reflecting fondly upon her impeccable character and her stalwart commitment to living the 
examined life with courage and conviction. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences 
to the family of Ms. Southerland. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to 
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear 
without House or Senate designation.
