1212 A RESOLUTION to commend Ivy Academy upon its receipt of the
1313 2024 Charter Champion Award for Community
1414 Impact Project of the Year.

1616 WHEREAS, it is fitting that we pay tribute to those educational institutions that, through
1717 the natural talents and unflagging commitment to academic excellence evidenced by their
1818 administration, faculty, staff, and students, have earned prestigious acclaim; and
1919 WHEREAS, Ivy Academy in Soddy Daisy is one such exemplary institution, which
2020 recently earned the 2024 Charter Champion Award for Community Impact Project of the Year
2121 for their Emergency Solar Power Backpacks Project; and
2222 WHEREAS, the Charter Champion Award for Community Impact Project of the Year is
2323 given by the Tennessee Charter School Center to a school, small group, or individual to
2424 recognize exceptional service to an organization, school, or community through innovative
2525 projects designed to positively impact and inspire both educational professionals and students;
2626 and
2727 WHEREAS, for their Emergency Solar Power Backpacks Project, Ivy Academy students,
2828 along with their STEM teacher Jerry Webb, designed, created, and are donating emergency
2929 solar power backpacks to aid in both humanitarian crises and natural disasters; and
3030 WHEREAS, Ivy students designed a prototype of the backpack with a foldable solar
3131 panel, lithium battery, charge controller, and inverter; they then tested the backpack in real-life
3232 scenarios, spending a day learning outside while using the solar power to charge devices like
3333 Chromebooks, phones, and small electronics, confirming comfort, ease of use, and reliability;

3939 WHEREAS, Ivy Academy students are now working on twenty emergency solar power
4040 backpacks, sending five to students in Ukraine, utilizing five to raise awareness locally, and
4141 sending ten to students in North Carolina who were impacted by the 2024 hurricane; and
4242 WHEREAS, Ivy students have done a number of presentations on the backpacks and
4343 have been awarded thousands of dollars to support their work; they are also working with other
4444 students in the community to share what they have learned; and
4545 WHEREAS, the ingenuity, determination, and compassion of the students at Ivy
4646 Academy are a tremendous source of pride for the school's administration, teachers, students,
4747 parents, and community; and
4848 WHEREAS, Ivy Academy is clearly deserving of our respect, admiration, and
4949 commendation, and it is our privilege to recognize their outstanding achievement; now,
5050 therefore,
5151 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUND RED FOURTEENTH
5252 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
5353 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we congratulate Ivy Academy upon its receipt of the
5454 2024 Charter Champion Award for Community Impact Project of the Year, saluting Ivy students
5555 and STEM teacher Jerry Webb on this prestigious honor and extending to them our best wishes
5656 for much continued success.
5757 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
5858 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
5959 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
