16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, it is fitting that we pay tribute to those educational institutions that, through |

17 | 17 | | the natural talents and unflagging commitment to academic excellence evidenced by their |

18 | 18 | | administration, faculty, staff, and students, have earned prestigious acclaim; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ivy Academy in Soddy Daisy is one such exemplary institution, which |
---|
20 | 20 | | recently earned the 2024 Charter Champion Award for Community Impact Project of the Year |
---|
21 | 21 | | for their Emergency Solar Power Backpacks Project; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, the Charter Champion Award for Community Impact Project of the Year is |
---|
23 | 23 | | given by the Tennessee Charter School Center to a school, small group, or individual to |
---|
24 | 24 | | recognize exceptional service to an organization, school, or community through innovative |
---|
25 | 25 | | projects designed to positively impact and inspire both educational professionals and students; |

27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, for their Emergency Solar Power Backpacks Project, Ivy Academy students, |
---|
28 | 28 | | along with their STEM teacher Jerry Webb, designed, created, and are donating emergency |
---|
29 | 29 | | solar power backpacks to aid in both humanitarian crises and natural disasters; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Ivy students designed a prototype of the backpack with a foldable solar |
---|
31 | 31 | | panel, lithium battery, charge controller, and inverter; they then tested the backpack in real-life |
---|
32 | 32 | | scenarios, spending a day learning outside while using the solar power to charge devices like |
---|
33 | 33 | | Chromebooks, phones, and small electronics, confirming comfort, ease of use, and reliability; |

42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Ivy students have done a number of presentations on the backpacks and |

43 | 43 | | have been awarded thousands of dollars to support their work; they are also working with other |

44 | 44 | | students in the community to share what they have learned; and |
---|
45 | 45 | | WHEREAS, the ingenuity, determination, and compassion of the students at Ivy |
---|
46 | 46 | | Academy are a tremendous source of pride for the school's administration, teachers, students, |
---|
47 | 47 | | parents, and community; and |
---|
48 | 48 | | WHEREAS, Ivy Academy is clearly deserving of our respect, admiration, and |
---|
49 | 49 | | commendation, and it is our privilege to recognize their outstanding achievement; now, |

51 | 51 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUND RED FOURTEENTH |
