15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, our nation was conceived by individuals who were willing to sacrifice their |
---|
16 | 16 | | personal concerns to ensure the public safety and welfare, and the Volunteer State is especially |
---|
17 | 17 | | proud to be the home of so many valiant individuals; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, one such person is Johnnie Sharp, Jr., who took his much-deserved |
---|
19 | 19 | | retirement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on January 31, 2025; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, in August 2022, FBI Director Christopher Wray named Johnnie Sharp, Jr., |
---|
21 | 21 | | as the Assistant Director of the IT Infrastructure Division at the FBI's campus in Huntsville, |
---|
22 | 22 | | Alabama; he most recently served as special agent in charge of the Birmingham Field Office in |
---|
23 | 23 | | Alabama; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp is the first person to hold an Assistant Director position in |
---|
25 | 25 | | Huntsville, where the FBI is locating some of its technical and specialized training activities; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Johnnie Sharp, Jr., joined the FBI as a special agent in 1998 and was |
---|
27 | 27 | | assigned to the Pittsburgh Field Office to investigate counterintelligence and counterterrorism |
---|
28 | 28 | | matters; he also served as a firearms instructor and on the SWAT Team; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, in 2005, he was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent and transferred to |
---|
30 | 30 | | one of the International Terrorism sections in the Counterterrorism Division at FBI Headquarters |
---|
31 | 31 | | in Washington, D.C.; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, in 2008, Mr. Sharp was named a Squad Supervisor of the |
---|
33 | 33 | | Counterintelligence, Cyber, and Technical programs in the Jackson Field Office in Mississippi; |
---|

35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, he served for several months as the FBI's Deputy On-scene Commander in |
---|
36 | 36 | | Iraq in 2009, in which position he was responsible for leading counterterrorism operations; and |

43 | 43 | | he managed the Cyber, Counterintelligence, Counterterrorism, Weapons of Mass Destruction, |
---|
44 | 44 | | Crisis Management, and Technical programs; and |

45 | 45 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp was promoted to Section Chief of the Technical Surveillance |
---|
46 | 46 | | Section in the Operational Technology Division at Headquarters in 2015; as Section Chief, he |
---|
47 | 47 | | provided management over eight technical units responsible for evidence and intelligence |
---|
48 | 48 | | collection capabilities; and |
---|
49 | 49 | | WHEREAS, during his estimable career, Johnnie Sharp, Jr., served temporary FBI |
---|
50 | 50 | | assignments in London, Cairo, New Delhi, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; he was selected to serve |
---|
51 | 51 | | as the Special Agent in Charge of the Birmingham Field Office in Alabama in 2017; and |
---|
52 | 52 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee; prior |
---|
53 | 53 | | to beginning his distinguished tenure with the FBI, he served as a deputy sheriff and police |
---|
54 | 54 | | officer in Knoxville; and |
---|
55 | 55 | | WHEREAS, Johnnie Sharp, Jr., epitomizes the spirit and commitment that are |
---|
56 | 56 | | characteristic of a true Tennessean, and his professionalism and dedication to public service |
---|
57 | 57 | | are evident to all who know him; and |
---|
58 | 58 | | WHEREAS, we find it appropriate to recognize and applaud Mr. Sharp for his dedication |
---|
59 | 59 | | to our nation and the State of Tennessee and its citizens; now, therefore, |

60 | 60 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HU NDRED FOURTEENTH |
