1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize Johnnie Sharp, Jr., on the occasion
1313 of his retirement.

1515 WHEREAS, our nation was conceived by individuals who were willing to sacrifice their
1616 personal concerns to ensure the public safety and welfare, and the Volunteer State is especially
1717 proud to be the home of so many valiant individuals; and
1818 WHEREAS, one such person is Johnnie Sharp, Jr., who took his much-deserved
1919 retirement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on January 31, 2025; and
2020 WHEREAS, in August 2022, FBI Director Christopher Wray named Johnnie Sharp, Jr.,
2121 as the Assistant Director of the IT Infrastructure Division at the FBI's campus in Huntsville,
2222 Alabama; he most recently served as special agent in charge of the Birmingham Field Office in
2323 Alabama; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp is the first person to hold an Assistant Director position in
2525 Huntsville, where the FBI is locating some of its technical and specialized training activities; and
2626 WHEREAS, Johnnie Sharp, Jr., joined the FBI as a special agent in 1998 and was
2727 assigned to the Pittsburgh Field Office to investigate counterintelligence and counterterrorism
2828 matters; he also served as a firearms instructor and on the SWAT Team; and
2929 WHEREAS, in 2005, he was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent and transferred to
3030 one of the International Terrorism sections in the Counterterrorism Division at FBI Headquarters
3131 in Washington, D.C.; and
3232 WHEREAS, in 2008, Mr. Sharp was named a Squad Supervisor of the
3333 Counterintelligence, Cyber, and Technical programs in the Jackson Field Office in Mississippi;

3535 WHEREAS, he served for several months as the FBI's Deputy On-scene Commander in
3636 Iraq in 2009, in which position he was responsible for leading counterterrorism operations; and

4141 WHEREAS, after returning to Mississippi, Johnnie Sharp, Jr., was promoted in 2013 to
4242 Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Jackson Field Office's National Security Branch, where
4343 he managed the Cyber, Counterintelligence, Counterterrorism, Weapons of Mass Destruction,
4444 Crisis Management, and Technical programs; and
4545 WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp was promoted to Section Chief of the Technical Surveillance
4646 Section in the Operational Technology Division at Headquarters in 2015; as Section Chief, he
4747 provided management over eight technical units responsible for evidence and intelligence
4848 collection capabilities; and
4949 WHEREAS, during his estimable career, Johnnie Sharp, Jr., served temporary FBI
5050 assignments in London, Cairo, New Delhi, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; he was selected to serve
5151 as the Special Agent in Charge of the Birmingham Field Office in Alabama in 2017; and
5252 WHEREAS, Mr. Sharp holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee; prior
5353 to beginning his distinguished tenure with the FBI, he served as a deputy sheriff and police
5454 officer in Knoxville; and
5555 WHEREAS, Johnnie Sharp, Jr., epitomizes the spirit and commitment that are
5656 characteristic of a true Tennessean, and his professionalism and dedication to public service
5757 are evident to all who know him; and
5858 WHEREAS, we find it appropriate to recognize and applaud Mr. Sharp for his dedication
5959 to our nation and the State of Tennessee and its citizens; now, therefore,
6060 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HU NDRED FOURTEENTH
6161 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
6262 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Johnnie Sharp, Jr., on the
6363 occasion of his retirement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thank him for his
6464 meritorious service, and extend to him our heartfelt wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement
6565 and every continued success in his future endeavors.
6666 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
