16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly pay tribute to those |
---|
17 | 17 | | exemplary organizations that work with purpose and conviction to improve the quality of life in |
---|
18 | 18 | | their respective communities; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, one such esteemed organization is Remote Area Medical (RAM), which |
---|
20 | 20 | | celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year, marking four decades of serving vulnerable |
---|
21 | 21 | | populations in need of quality medical care; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, now nationally renowned, RAM was founded in Rockford in 1985 by Stan |
---|
23 | 23 | | Brock, a British-born Amazonian cowboy turned star of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, who |
---|
24 | 24 | | envisioned an America where everyone has access to health care, regardless of location or |
---|
25 | 25 | | ability to pay; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, an inspirational adventurer who went from wrestling giant anacondas on |
---|
27 | 27 | | television to grappling with one of the biggest social issues of our time, Mr. Brock set out with a |
---|
28 | 28 | | mission to prevent pain and alleviate suffering by providing free, quality health care to those in |
---|
29 | 29 | | need through the operation of pop-up and telehealth clinics offering dental, vision, and medical |
---|
30 | 30 | | services to the uninsured, underinsured, and underserved; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, RAM receives no payments from patients, no money from taxpayers, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | no federal funding; it accomplishes its noble mission through the continued generosity of |
---|
33 | 33 | | volunteers, donors, and supporters; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, in the four decades since RAM's founding, more than 230,000 volunteers— |
---|
35 | 35 | | primarily licensed physicians and pre-professional students—have served nearly 978,000 |

43 | 43 | | WHEREAS, RAM serves marginalized indigent and working class individuals struggling |

44 | 44 | | to make ends meet, the penniless, the forgotten, and the millions of fellow Americans who have |

45 | 45 | | slipped through the cracks of our porous healthcare system, keeping Stan Brock's legacy of |
---|
46 | 46 | | hope alive; and |

47 | 47 | | WHEREAS, whether serving under-resourced communities in rural areas or providing |
---|
48 | 48 | | care to the unhoused, recovering veterans, and survivors of abuse in urban areas, RAM brings |
---|
49 | 49 | | health care to the patient despite their location or ability to pay; the organization exists to ensure |
---|
50 | 50 | | that even the most vulnerable among us have access to the same quality health care we all |
---|
51 | 51 | | deserve; and |
---|
52 | 52 | | WHEREAS, Remote Area Medical has provided compassionate, quality care for the |
---|
53 | 53 | | underserved in Tennessee for forty years now, and it is our privilege to recognize this vital |
---|
54 | 54 | | organization on this special occasion; now, therefore, |

55 | 55 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH |

56 | 56 | | GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF |

57 | 57 | | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Remote Area Medical upon |

58 | 58 | | the organization's fortieth anniversary, commending its continued commitment to bringing free |
---|
59 | 59 | | health care to remote and underserved communities throughout Tennessee and across |
---|
60 | 60 | | America. |
