A RESOLUTION to recognize Chief Scott Boyd of the Kingsport 
Fire Department on the occasion of his 
retirement. 
 
 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the members of this General Assembly should pause to 
honor those citizens who have performed with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout 
their years of service in public safety; and 
 WHEREAS, Chief Scott Boyd of the Kingsport Fire Department is one such estimable 
individual, who, following more than three decades of service in the firefighting industry, will take 
his much-deserved retirement this year; and 
 WHEREAS, Chief Boyd began his firefighting career at a volunteer department and 
joined the Kingsport Fire Department in 1988, during which time, the department had only four 
stations and approximately ninety employees; and 
 WHEREAS, Scott Boyd has proudly served the Kingsport Fire Department as Chief 
since 2017, responding to countless emergencies and aiding the residents of his community in 
their greatest time of need; and 
 WHEREAS, over the course of his career, the Kingsport Fire Department faced many 
challenges and embraced several changes, but Chief Boyd has always prioritized progress; his 
fondest memories in fire service include working alongside his department peers, who have 
always endeavored to help those in need and make a difference; and 
 WHEREAS, for more than thirty years, Scott Boyd has performed his duties with probity 
and expertise, helping his fellow citizens in any way that he could and proving himself time and 
again to be a tremendous asset to his community; and

 WHEREAS, Chief Boyd exemplifies the spirit and allegiance to family and community 
that are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and 
 WHEREAS, throughout his years in public service, Chief Scott Boyd demonstrated the 
utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the respect and admiration of his fellow 
firefighters and the residents of Kingsport; now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF 
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Chief Scott Boyd on his 
exemplary career with the Kingsport Fire Department and extend to him our best wishes for 
much continued success and happiness during his retirement. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to 
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear 
without House or Senate designation.
