12	12	A RESOLUTION to honor Wyatt Davis on winning the Class A
13	13	wrestling state championship in his weight class.

15	15	WHEREAS, we take great pleasure in recognizing those dedicated student athletes who
16	16	serve as the heart and soul of their schools and communities while wearing the crown of a
17	17	champion; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Wyatt Davis recently won the 2025 TSSAA Class A wresting state
19	19	championship in the 144-pound weight class to distinguish himself as the first individual state
20	20	champion in any sport in Whitwell High School history; and
21	21	WHEREAS, in the final match of the state tournament, Wyatt Davis overcame a 6-0
22	22	deficit to beat an opponent who entered the final with a 51-0 season record; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Wyatt showcased his impressive power and relentless pace to overcome
24	24	the early deficit, secure an 11-8 decision, and claim the state championship; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Mr. Davis's path to the state championship was a most difficult one; the
26	26	Class A 144-pound bracket featured five returning state placers, while Wyatt won his final two
27	27	matches against wrestlers who had a combined season record of 108-4; and
28	28	WHEREAS, he not only defeated a previously unbeaten wrestler in the final, but he also
29	29	bounced back from a 1-4 deficit in the second period of a tough semifinal matchup to pin his
30	30	opponent at the 3:36 mark; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Wyatt Davis posted an 11-5 decision in the first round of the state tourney
32	32	and a dominating 17-1 tech fall in the quarterfinals; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Wyatt Davis had won back-to-back regional and sectional championships
34	34	for the Tigers before finishing this season with a 22-3 overall record and state championship

40	40	WHEREAS, Mr. Davis modestly attributes his success to hard work and perseverance
41	41	on his part, and the inspired instruction of Coach Thomas Argo; and
42	42	WHEREAS, an outstanding overall athlete, Wyatt Davis also stars for a Whitwell Tigers
43	43	football team that has produced 25 wins over the last three seasons with the help of his 17
44	44	touchdowns, 162 tackles, two interceptions, and two blocked field goal attempts; and
45	45	WHEREAS, as his legacy on the wrestling mat assumes its rightful place in Whitwell's
46	46	athletic history, Wyatt Davis hopes his triumph will inspire more students to join the school's
47	47	wrestling program; and
48	48	WHEREAS, Wyatt Davis has distinguished himself as a dominant champion of whom we
49	49	can all be proud, and he is worthy of our approbation; now, therefore,
50	50	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
51	51	GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
52	52	REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate Wyatt Davis of the
53	53	Whitwell High School Tigers on winning the Class A wrestling state championship in the 144-
54	54	pound weight class and wish him all the best in future competition.
55	55	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
56	56	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
57	57	the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
58	58	without House or Senate designation.
